Remington 700 Long Throat

I just bought a Remington 700 stainless 5r mil spec in .308. I haven't fired it yet but will tomorrow. Curious about comments I've heard about Remington factory rifles having excessively long throats I also bought a Sinclair bullet seating depth gauge and measured 3.005". I then took a spent case, slightly squeezed the mouth and inserted a bullet and forced the bolt closed. I pulled it out and measured 3.009". This is excessive isn't it? I want to have magazine length rounds that load close to the rifling. I assume I am into some shortening aren't I?

No, just use a longer bullet or some of Alan Warner's copper bullets. Lots of choices for longer bullets.

You just have to do your load development at mag length, then. I have 2 5Rs. The throats are long. The Sierra 168s jump pretty well.
