Glue, Screw, or to Bed

Wondering just how much difference in accuracy there is in all of the above. Is it worth gluing when it makes such a mess when you take your action out? It seems the ''nicest'' way is bed and screw in. but just how much accuracy do you give up over a glued in action? Are pillar blocks necessary in a screw in? thoughts ?

What mess? I prefer to glue and screw, whenever possible. All it takes to remove a glue in is a clothes iron and about 5-10 minutes. They virtually always come out perfectly.
The idea is not so much that it will shoot better than a "perfect" bedding job, but that it's hard to screw up a glue in. I like to add pillars and screws because I've seen two come loose at a National championship, at least one of those was when the guy was leading the match.

If you're doing a screw-in, you want pillars (metal ones). The clamping force of small screws is surprisingly high at lowish torques - it can be 500-1500 pounds (very, very roughly - it depends on a lot). You don't want that force permanently squishing what's basically a plastic stock. Pillars will keep a good, consistent hold, and the minor cost/effort is worth it in my view.
 
Glued & screwed action? :confused:
Never heard of such a thing.

Pictures of the New Red Green show come to mind.
Duct tape the stock and barreled action because he lost the screws, and the rings look flimsy, so we'll duct tape that down too. :eek:
 
Can someone tell me what is screwed in the glued and screwed ? I can’t for the life of me figure out where or how you add screws to make it more secure . Are you tapping and threading more holes in your action ? You can’t posdible be saying you just use the action screws already provided because thats just DAH !

Never mind I just realized if you don’t say screwed some people would think you only need to glue the action in .

I had to take 1 of my actions out to have it updated. It's only glued into what looks like a bedded action. I used the hot iron method to remove it. When it came out it took part of the bed with it. Maybe I didn't have it hot enough !
I have a used older Panda that is glued and looks to have screws.

I'm assuming it's a special glue ???? There are so many out there from Elmer's household glue to sleeve retaining compound , I'd assume there are a few specific ones that are best ???

My thinking would be something that does not dry rock hard and has minimal give . Bonds well to the materials being used wood and metal , plastic and metal ??

Marinetex [sp] or JB weld or you can use duck tape;} like said above.

Most use JB weld for "glue"
 
The problem with a glue-in is that there's absolutely no way to know if the action is under stress once it's done.

You'd shudder to know how many 'bad' barrels and scopes have been replaced when the culprit was a poorly done glue-in job.

A well done pillar bedding job with a proper recoil lug will shoot to the same accuracy level as the best glue-in and offers 'way more flexibility in terms of maintenance and trouble shooting.

Even the best bedding job is only guaranteed to touch just above the pillars. A little time with some dial indicators and warmth from the sun with teach you just how much stocks move and its variable. In fact if you have a really good tracking stock and the morning sun is hitting one side you can see it in how it tracks. A glue in is a bonded joint, no variable contact from day to day and temperature changes.
Of the rifles I can remember gluing and screwing, we are up to 14 records broken in LR BR with glued and screwed actions and a couple Nationals wins.
