Re glue in action

Link

Silver $$ Contributor
OK another part of my reassembly after I paint my stock is the glue in. When I popped my bedded, glued action [using only the back action screw] out of my stock I guess I got lucky the bedding looks real good and it looks like gray devcon. My question is what to use to re glue and what are the tricks? A video would be nice.

Clean the bedding with acetone and rough it up a bit with sand paper and clean again with acetone. Clean the action with acetone. Remove the trigger assembly and put modeling clay in the screw holes that hold the trigger hanger. You may also have to put some clay or release agent on the bolt release and bolt release screw. Make sure the bolt release screw is accessible before gluing in the action. I use JB weld for glue in. If the action released from the bedding by unscrewing the rear screw it was probably not glued in properly.

^^^ L.C. No the action didn't come right out, I had to give it a fair amount of heat and persuade it a little. It left the bedding in perfect shape. I will post a picture when I get to the shop.

Sounds like its goin perfect. Ruff up the bedding with a dremel and jb weld it in there with the suggestions above. If you need some suggestions and pics on how to ruff it up i posted pics around oct-nov in the gunsmithing forum called a quick bedding tutorial

Video is worth looking at. I did and had no problems removing and then glueing action back in to another stock. Worked like a charm.
Be sure to clean up the excess JB well. It’s a bear to get off after it dries.

Do this. And use them generously.

I also like popsicle sticks.
I use the cheap plastic knives. I cut one at a sharp point to get the edges around the action. Keep a trash can nearby and just throw the qtips right in there. After its done and youre admiring your work look over the entire stock for a jb weld fingerprint

Wait. We went from glue in to existing bedding, which is relatively clean and controlled generating little mess, to what sounds like a full bed job: "buy a new pack of shop towels, q-tips, and WD-40"...

For the glue in, you can almost paint the areas to glue with a thin coat since you're not trying to fill voids.

I guess you can. And wonder when it is going to come lose. You need to give the surface area to bite or bond.

So are you saying for a glue in you open up 1/16" or more clearance all around? I just bed, scratch/clean the bedding. Sand/clean the action, and then glue in with a thin coat. Just took one out with no action screws and it was in there solid. Took a lot of heat and then some force.

JB Weld is the way to go. Just my two cents Tommy Mc

Not a good picture of the bedding, but.
