Global Benchrest Association? - Harry Jones 1000yd Memorial Range

I got to shoot one long range match this year, the ibs 600yd nationals. Under these rules i wouldnt have gotten to shoot any.
They had to do it...If you didn't register right away it filled up...There was such a long waiting list of guys wanting to shoot in Nationals - hoping someone would cancel and they could get in...Right????

Not that I'm aware of. I signed up last minute for the 600 yard nationals and was not rejected. I mean, there is a deadline for registration, but I dont think it was full with a waiting list. I could be wrong, but I shot with last minute registration.

So in your explanation you site 2017 not having enough from the east coast participants. Do you not think that had anything at all to do with a massive storm hitting the area? I would say it did. And participation points!?! Lol you guys are awesome! I guys you just really don’t want people to come win, when they haven’t come all year because “that’s just not right” lol Good luck to you guys, you’ve officially made it to where out of town people can’t come to your state match because you purposely schedule matches the same times as other clubs.

GA IBS MATCHES 4,5,6 this weekend don’t forget and for the 15 or so I’ve talked to, safe travels and can’t wait to see the no local guys!

I agree with you, Terry. This part of their explanation seems to shed some light --- money, things and awards appear to be part of it

"Please note that as we were founding the GBA, we identified a number of things that other benchrest associations had in their rules (or did not include in their rules) that seemed to us as not in the best interest of our Clubs. One of these things is the lack of any qualification for shooting in the biggest matches of the season. These matches typically have significant prize tables and cash awards."

I personally just like getting together with friends, meet some new people and try to shoot as small as possible. Hell I'd rather they get rid of trophies/plaques at the matches (including the nationals) and use the money to donate to youth firearm competitions and recruitment.

Now I like it even less!
+1, but at least they told us straight out SEVERAL times that it's all about the CLUB, not the shooters. I really like supporting a facility that works to try and be a great place to come and shoot, and treats the shooters like customers and not like they are doing us a favor to let us shoot there, AND I really take offense to being black-mailed into going there...

Here is a suggestion GBA - if, at your nationals, you aren't good enough to perform well and get some of the "significant prize tables and cash awards" then maybe more practice is in order. Creating a new organization so you will have a bigger piece of a smaller pie just doesn't seem logical.

So when you call up the great people to ask for a donation for the prize table, do you mention they're not invited? Come on guys, I would probably come support your national each year if it in fact was 80 plus of the nation's best.

Tom

Edit @mikegaiz

May I suggest you possibly give to 6 match folk a "discount" and maybe charge the rest of us more? If this is a consecutive weekend to IBS national, I seriously would like to come.

Great thread to grow the sport ,why don't you guys take it to PM ? I mean....A few thousand dollars were just raised to support a complete stranger to this forum...His mom posted a question and the dollars were flowing...That was to help a young shooter, imagine him and his young friends coming here and reading this...probably rolling their eyes and hoping they don't act like that when they get older. Wow

Who do we pm exactly? I haven't saw anyone from the GBA step up to answer any questions. Posting a website is far from answers.

I think you were reading my mind . I have to wonder what potential sponsers that are following this thread might be thinking . my thinking is a world , national , or supper match means tough competition from far and near, top guns with top rewards on the table . If this is not your intent so be it ,that's fine. I do hope the best for gba . thank you . dave

I couldn't agree more. I'd have a hard time wanting to throw in a gift certificate if I wasn't even allowed to shoot that match. One of the big draws (in my opinion) of shooting a National match is seeing some competitors from the other side of the country that you only get to compete against once a year. See how your best stacks up against there best. Not just the same 30 guys that are at every club match.

Isn't this an open forum for discussion? Where shooters can discuss things going on in the shooting community. Te be more specific, we are in the "Competition" section of this open forum. Where things about competition are to be discussed, which is exactly what is happening right now.

You got me there,I guess it just seems like a strange way to discuss it. I just wonder how much this hurts the potential of all shooting sports ? Carry on...

"Groupthink occurs when people’s desire to maintain group loyalty becomes more important than making the best choices. People often find it hard to think and act independently in group situations...Group members often suffer overconfidence and hold an unquestioned belief in the group’s competence and morality."

"Groupthink fosters a strong “us versus them” mentality that prompts members to accept group perspectives in the heat of the moment, even when these perspectives don’t necessarily align with their personal views."

The folks from Montana will remember when the Montana Freeman moved into Jordan and named their land "Justus Township". The rest of us referred to it as "Just Us"...

However well intentioned the founders of the GBA were, this rule appears to have put them in a difficult situation. I would encourage them to internally review the merits of going forward with it. It is important that there be 'spirited debate' (like we are having here) internally among it's members regarding keeping it. Also, leadership should contact the respected manufacturers etc that have historically supported shooting sports through their donations of cash, goods and services to get their input as part of the review process.

Full disclosure: I am a NRA High Power F Class competitor...we are in a constant state of "spirited debate" on any number of subjects:)

You want the rules changed already!?!?

I know us deplorables out here in middle of the country aren't supposed to be capable of much thought or reasoning but it would appear that the way global arranged their shoot requirements it would be next to impossible for the average person to shoot both IBS and global. This was laid out way in advance of this weeks announcement, it had to be or all the ranges they say are now global would not be available to them. It certainly looks like a power squeeze to force the IBS out of the game. NBRSA has taken over the west coast and now global is taking the east coast, everything else in the middle is what worries me. And I hope I'm wrong, I don't presume to know other fokes intent, but if it walks like a duck.....
