Giraurd vs Wilson Case Trimmers

I use a Sinclair Chamber Length Gauge to tell me exactly here my chamber ends, I trim back .010 from that number, it usually takes 2-3 firings to get there, then I trim every time. Steve you make a good point on neck turning virgin brass, I hadn't thought about that, thanks.

I've had a Wilson/Sinclair trimmer almost since I first started loading... tried a Hornady but literally returned it to the store the next day and ordered the Wilson. Then by a strange quirk of fate I ended up moving to Washington state, and wound up about 30 minutes from L.E. Wilson Tool & Die. Now I have lots of Wilson shell holders, for almost every caliber I own.

I got the Giraud years ago to replace a Gracey that I was getting frustrated with. Primary job was .223 Rem for HP Rifle matches. The Giraud was so much easier to use and worked so much better that it wasn't even a close comparison. Later I started adding more and more calibers as time/funds allowed. Nowadays I use it for all the calibers I have large batches (>100 pcs) of brass for, and pretty much every firing for the ones I clean via wet SS tumbling media, in order to clean up the case mouth/chamfer a smidge.

Probably the best 'upgrade' to the Giraud for me was getting those Skip Otto die shims. Somewhere along the line I read about someone else doing that (think it was over on the forums @ SH) and it was a classic "Holy cow, why didn't I think of that?!?" moment. So simple, so easy and so repeatable - very handy for when you have multiple guns in the same caliber but not necessarily with the same headspace.

Look at Steve Blair's post, #15. You can see the shim/shims in the picture.

I use them whenever I can. They work great.
