Giraud case trimmer question

Hengehold

Silver $$ Contributor
I have a 284 Win case holder. Can I trim 6.5-284 brass with it or is there going to be a problem because I have a 6.5mm case flopping around in a 7mm hole?

Thanks,
-T

I would say it's worth a try. The case body is supported by the case-holder.
You will need the 6.5 cutter head.

I can’t say exactly although Doug Giraud is great at returning calls. However, they both have a 35 degree shoulder and since the 6.5x284 has a slightly longer shoulder (if I’m not mistaken) then in theory I would think it would fit and work decently enough since his machine indexes off the shoulder and presuming the cutter is set correctly. The cutter is universal so you can use it for any caliber as long as you don’t mind adjusting each time. However my gut says for optimal quality of cut just order one from him for the correct caliber, it’s cheap enough. I have and use one every time but never tried 6.5x284 in my 284 holder. But give me a couple days and if nobody else answers or if you don’t get ahold of Doug I will throw one of the 600 new brass I’ll have on Wednesday in it and see how it works for you.

I have a cutter for each caliber, then just use the holder that fits. ie. 243,260,308 uses one holder. In answer to your question, yes it will work, just adjust the cutter.
I hope this helps,

Lloyd
