Getting the lens hood off of a 5-25x56 Arken

I have an Arken 5-25x56 that has been in my safe for 2 years. Got it out today and for the life of me I cannot get the lens hood off. I was only on my F-Class rifle for 1 match and a few range trips for load development. No bangs or dents. I have tried hard but it isn't budging.

Any ideas how I can get it off?

TIA

David

You talking about the sunshade? You can drop a little Kroil or similar on the thread area and let it do its work. I’d have the rifle canted done so it doesn’t get on the objective glass if it makes it through. And then take the scope off the rifle so you can get better leverage.

You might try the warm hand and ice cube trick, works great on lens filters. Or if the lens is in a warm room you could invert canned air and give the sunshade a short little squirt but not next to the lens to make the shade cold but not enough to make it super cold.

The cold will travel up the shade well enough to have the same effect as ice only better. Wrapping your warm hand around the end of the lens will keep it warm. This of course expands the scope end and contracts the sunshade which many times will pop loose the bond and you can simply unscrew the shade (or lens filter) before it warms up.

You could try borrowing your wife's (or yours, don't mean to be misogynistic) rubber glove you use for washing the dishes, to give more friction as you try to unscrew it
