Getting an in-between for .30-06 and .22LR

Yep, the PA Game Commission has a 27-caliber minimum for Elk also. Like a 140 or a 160 grain 6.5 from a 6.5 x 55 is not enough but a 130 from a 270 is ok.
i guess i need to get my book back out. last i knew 223 was fine and 6.5 120gr for elk is also?
i have a 6.5 and saw it was legal and i have used a 223 on whitetails too?

If you're in PA make sure the book is 2021. They allowed semi autos and then dropped them for deer. Then did a few other weird things.

223 will do a lot of work up to deer with patient selection and execution of shot placement. 22-250 is more of a good thing for the low volume shooter. 6.5 Grendel lives there too.

A basic battery includes 22lr, 223 and 308. In your case the 30/06 takes the place of the 308. I strongly suggest filling out the basic battery and owning lots of ammo before buying more guns. Hard to do!

You can't be serious about ONLY needing ONE more rifle!! My vote would be a 6cm . Coming with a fast twist barrel from the factory is a plus, and a wide variety of factory ammo. Nothing wrong with a .243 either. I have shot many deer with mine. If you just want to go shooting for fun, a .223 is really hard to beat.
