German Salazar

I was wondering If anyone has spoken to German Salazar lately, I get almost immediate replies from e-mails to him and have not heard from him in two week's now.

He had rotator cuff surgery so he has not been around the range much. I figure he's just taking a vacation from shooting. As much shooting stuff as he was into, I would.

I hope German is doing okay, but I just had rotor cuff surgery and I have thought about having the phone disconnected and I don't know how many times I have been writing one of my long winded posts one handed and hit the wrong key and loose everything >:( >:( If I wasn't worried about hurting my good arm I would through it through the wall!! very tough trying to communicate by computer or phone always with one hand, if your reading German I wish you a speedy recovery and hope all is well.
Wayne.

He was on this site at 2:42 this afternoon so as I said it don;t hurt to much to surf but too much time on the key board is no fun, he probably is just laying low he will be back before long I imagine.
Wayne

They also give you some very good drugs after rotator cuff surgery. So if he's following doctor's orders he's probably laying low in la-la land. Get well soon German!

I got a brief email from him appx two weeks ago and he was having some serious pain management issues, not able to sleep, etc... Typing was a basturd for him then

So, I imagine he is miserable and crawled off in the bush, lick his woulds & recouperate in his own manner. He's too much a diehard shooter/shooting educator/all around good guy to stay away for ever. But just prob wants some downtime.....

He'll be back when he's ready... 8)

Hopefully he was able to have the Arthroscopic surgery rather than the open surgery. Either way it is no picnic, just a little faster recovery and a little less pain.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery, German!!

Barry

Hi everyone! I just saw this thread for the first time! It's been 8 weeks since my surgery and the recovery has indeed been very slow and painful. Turns out the damage was pretty extensive, more than expected from the MRI. I've been going to physical therapy three times per week since the second week after surgery and although the people are really nice and incredibly talented, it's no picnic.

I'm going to try to shoot a 500 yard F-Class match tomorrow, but I don't know if I'll be able to do it at all, I'm just going to try. Supporting myself on the right arm (the one that got operated) might be impossible after a few minutes, I just don't know yet. I do know that sitting in a chair all weekend watching TV is not my idea of fun...

I'm now getting to the point where I can type a bit more freely and sit at the computer for more than a minute or two at a time. I'm trying to get my website back up to speed, but don't look for any big feature articles for a while, those usually take me from 10 to 20 hours and that's not in the cards for now.

Wayne, I hope your recovery goes well, and thanks to everyone for the good wises.

German,
Welcome back :) I knew exactly why you weren't out here, it's a real bugger to type or do much of anything as far as that goes. I am 2 1/2 weeks into it and starting to feel some what human again, with one arm ;D I hope you are able to complete your match, let us know please. I have one next week end and I will attend come hell or high water! Good luck to you Mr. Salazar and thank you.
Wayne.

German......God speed on your recovery. I have never been in a hospital and feel lucky after 67 years to be enjoying life so much.

We have a 900/1000 yd F Class practise tomorrow. Some of my buddys know you by rep. I will mention your recovery to them if they don`t already know.

Good luck with your 500.

Bill

I have had 18 operations and nothing is worse than any type of joint surgery. They say knees are the worst but from what my friend tells me his rotor cuff took a year till he was able to go back to work.So German and wayne and John O ,I wish you all good luck with recovery .A special note to German,do not over do it as it could retear the work he just did.The shoulder is the weakest joint in the body and reinjury is almost certain if you over do it. Anyways ,maybe an orthopaedic doc will chime in and back me up,LOL I am facing a back surgery and the opposite shoulder as my collar bone joint is heavily artritic from pounding my body so bad years ago. So get well and hopefully enjoy a little down time to read or research which I often do when I am recovering.

Hi German;
Hey get well soon, Be careful not to over do it. Don't rush. remember it has to heal.
I know what it's like. Right now im waiting for Back surgery again.

Well, it's official, I'm an F'er! Shot my Palma rifle in F-TR with a Leupold 24 left over from Smallbore. 198-9, 198-6, 198-7 shooting Sierra 180's with IMR 4064, about 2650 fps. The 594-22 was high in F-TR and a few points ahead of the F-Open winner, so not too bad for a first effort.

The arm is OK, I took a pain pill and iced it down as soon as we were done. During the match I used a Smallbore kneeling roll under my chest for support so that the arm wouldn't have to carry the weight. Best of all, a good friend volunteered to pull targets for me so I was able to rest a bit between strings.

Being with friends again and seeing their concern and their willingness to help me out (loading and unloading the truck, pulling targets, etc.) made this the best day I've had in a long time. I'm a little sore right now, but feeling much better than before. Thanks to all!

German, I know what you are going through. I had R.cuff surgery about 7 years ago and tried to go without pain meds after what I got in the O.R. What a mistake, it took almost 4 days for me to chase down the pain with meds.

I tor the quadricep off my left knee cap about 5 years ago and that pain doesn't compare to what I had in my shoulder.

Take the time and recover correctly.

Yes, apparently German can lick all us F'ers with just one arm. But, the upside is maybe I'll learn how to read the wind a little better by scoring for him :-)

Wow, you guys are hard core. My wife had 3 repairs to the labrum on her shooting shoulder and the doctor would not let her shoot for 14 months. I got her a crossbow last deer season to have something to shoot. I just can't think shooting this soon is anything but bad. Please be careful and follow the doc's instructions.

Hi German,

it's great to hear you're back in circulation and shooting again. How come only 198s and not 200s? The 'obsolete' .30-06 too, I presume?

I've bought a couple of cheap .300 1-10" twist Spanish Bergara barrel blanks for my old Winchester Pattern 1914 ('Enfield') bitzer F Class rifle, found an M1917 bolt, and my good friend and up and coming UK gunsmith Luke Wadsworth has ordered your .30-06 PT&G reamer to chamber the first blank, so I look forward to having another 'bash' (as we Brits say) at that old favourite, the .30-06.

Now, that should speed you on the road to recovery a little anyway.

Regards,
Laurie,
York, England

Sounds like you started your F-Class career with a resounding victory. Congrats, German! As others have said, take your time in recovery and rehab. We all want you to be 100% when this is all complete. In the meantime, those F-TR guys better watch out...
