General Purpose Shooting Tripod

You guys have any recomendations for a general porpose walking around shooting tripod? I need something mainly for rimfire / small cal for squirrels.

I use to use a shooting bench for all my PD hunting. Two years ago, I switched over to a SLIK tripod with a level head.

I like to walk the fields and my gear is carried on a game cart. It makes everything so much easier. When I get to a shooting spot, I usually stay there for an hour or so depending on what the wind and PD's are doing. Then I move on to the next spot.

If you're going to do more walking than staying in one place, as others have mentioned, a set of shooting stick may be best for you. You could make a set which would be very inexpensive and try them out. If you didn't care for them, go to a tripod.

If I didn't have a game cart to hall my stuff around with, I would use a carbon fiber tripod just because it's lighter.

Which ever you decide to do, practice a lot before you go on the hunt. It's different shooting off of sticks or a tripod than a bench rest, tree stump, log, etc....

Im pretty shakey , lol. Im actually looking at leophoto inverted leg tripod. I guess buy once, cry once.
Prob the small one would be great. But thinking of the big 88lb one for my long range gun for later

I have the BOG Deathgrip that I use a lot. Light enough to carry for Prairie Dogs and Coyote hunting.
I bought the graphite one as it was just a little lighter that the aluminum one. It has three different leg locking positions so I can use it standing, kneeling or sitting. Easy to adjust legs with lever locks for height adjustment and an adjustable angle clamp for the gun.

I too use a BOG Deathgrip. It’s a lot of tripod for the money. I made adapter blocks to allow using the original clamping vise or Arca rail.

link to a post where the adapter is described:

I ended up splurging ang got the leofoto SO-322C inverted tripod
Got a good deal. And wow its tall.
Not to heavy either. Still have to get a ball head and shooting saddle.

Thats a nice looking tripod. Why the inverted legs?
I didnt not specifically want inverted legs. What i was looking for was fairly tall and i didnt want 3-4 leg sections. Its mainly for shooting sitting off a chair or standing. The inverted legs though keep the leg adjustment higher and closer to reach. Sage rats lookout!

This is what Leofoto has to say about the inverted legs.

I have one. Pros are it's light, solid and easy to adjust. Cons are it's bulky to carry/transport and had a funny smell (which has faded).
