GemPro 250 Scale

There was a topic on the GemPro 250 and the constant use of the Tare button because of drift.
I can not find that thread to see if anyone has solved the problem or not??
My scale is driving me nuts with the constant drifting and am not sure if my powder charges are even the same without having to weigh them twice.
If anyone has corrected the problem let me know.
Thanks
Bench

Also are you guys using the Tare button to keep the sacle at zero or are you setting it to Memory and adding your powder till it comes to weight?????

You need to keep it plugged in 24/7. I keep mine plugged in and rarely drifts. If it drifts after keeping it plugged in, return it....they will replace it.

I just got my scale the other day. I found that if I use the RCBS pan zeroed on the gem pro 250 and use the same pan to powder charge and then place it on the gem pro, I get drift. If I use the pan that came with the gem pro and pour in the charge from the other pan. I do not get any drift. But even if I did. I can hit the tare button before I pour the charge. It seems a lot more accurate this way not to mention faster using two pans. :D

Not sure, but I think mine "auto tares". When I set the empty pan back on the scale sometimes the reading stops at .02 or .04, but after a moment, it goes to 0.00 - all by itself.

There are a bunch of little "tricks" with the Gem-Pro....one is to lift and set back down the pan after you pour in you powder this will settle the grains and give you a more accurate weight of what is in the pan. The other very important trick is to wait until the little "g" in the lower right hand corner quits flashing until you do anything. If you lift the pan or add a granule while it is flashing it will cause drift every time. Mine goes back to zero every time if I follow these two rules. The other thing I do is use a battery (not the ones that come with the unit) to power the unit and use two battery powered lights instead of fluorescent. All other electronics are unplugged or powered off during reloading. Hope some of this helps. My ES runs in single digits and that means I must be getting the loads close in powder weight.

I was originally thinking about using a 6 volt lantern battery to power mine. But if I lived in a house and had a dedicated reloading room, I would use a 6 volt deep cycle battery (think golf cart or trolling motor battery). It would go a long, long time between charges.

When the scale is drifting, the sensor is not ok and the scale should be changed (WyWeigh scales have full Lifetime / 30-year international warranty).
I have very good experience with the GemPro. A very good scale.

Other good scales: Jennings Mack20 and JSVG20.

Suggested and very helpfull acccessory from Hornady and Lee:

This is key. It's not really a trick we just have to let the machine do its job.
Same goes for trickling, you need to wait a couple of seconds for the scale to re-read the weight.
Previous poster is correct, if the scale won't give a correct measure send it in. For original buyers with their receipt they have a Lifetime Warranty. US repairs are in Pheonix, AZ.
I run mine from the house power, it's turned on at least a day before use and I calibrate before each use. Re-tare-ing usually isn't needed during a loading session.
Getting consistent single-digit SDs in the Dasher with it. Sold the spendy AccuLab.

My GemPro has a strange "habit" after setting it up and assuring it is zero'd. During use the weight displayed when the plastic pan is removed changes and wanders, but when the pan is replaced it goes to 0.00.

If I remove the weighed powder charge, replace the pan and Tare the scale, the original weight display when the pan is absent returns. Placing the charge back in the pan results in the exact desired weighed display - even when the no-pan weight had varied.

Any ideas?

Not sure this is the fix, but I have found the scale is a "precision" instrument that cannot be handled like a hammer and anvil. I use a pair of precision Tweezers to lift the pan and sit it back onto the scale each and every time being very careful to try not to be to heavy handed. This seems to assure the scale zero's out each time and does not need recalibrating during a loading session. Again, little things learned over time.

mine has not drifted at all yet and it stays plugged in impresses bad weather is coming then I unplug it from the wall.

I also use the ferrules from RadioShack close to the wall plug and up by the back of the scale
