Gem pro 250 does it work better on batteries?

I pour my charges mostly with the RCBS chargemaster combo, but I do some loading in the pheasant camp. My question is, does the gem pro 250 work better on batteries or as well on a Honda generator. My thought is batteries are more consistent. I do know my am radio sucks on the gen.

It's been so long ago since I've used my Gem Pro 250 that I'm really not sure. I think it's about the same performance wise. But one thing I know for sure is that it eats batteries rather quickly and you don't want to use it in that matter or you better have alot of batteries available.

Just about every electronic instrument that can use batteries performs better on them. The DC power is pure to start with and no filtering is required.

I have a Pact Chronograph with I/R sensors. It works terrible when running off the plug in 6 V supply (for the sensors) yet never a problem when I run them off a 6 V battery pack I made that uses 4 D-Cells.

The "Controller/Printer" used to eat 9 V batteries like Skittles. I now have a power pack that holds 6 AA cells and I get a whole year out of a set of Lithium camera batteries.

On your GemPro, just make a simple adapter that replaces your batteries with a piece of wood dowel that has a flat head screw in the end where the + and - terminals are inside. Connect a red (+) and black (-) wire to the screws and run them out to a small 6 V lantern battery with screw terminals. This should last as long as a case or two of the AAA batteries the scale uses. If you want rechargable, just get a small 6 V motorcycle battery.

FWIW, the scale may well operate just fine with one of the Radio Shack "Power Bank" batteries which are 5.5 V and used to power Cell Phones when charging power isn't available.

I hate replacing the small batteries and also hate extension cords.

I had my gempro 250 at te range not too long ago. It was drifting a lot on batteries, I loved it near an outlet and it drifted less. It's possible there was less wind.


FYI, the chargemaster works great outdoors however the gempro does not.

I got a low battery warning and it shut off before loading 100 rounds on my Gempro. Went back to using the plug.

Try the Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries. They are more expensive but last much longer. They advertise they are the "World's Longest Lasting Battery For High-Tech Devices". I have had good luck with them.

I don't know if this is an isolated incident or not, but it might be something to keep in mind. About a month ago I sat down to load and started getting wild fluctuations from a Gempro. I power cycled it with no change in behavior. I pulled the AC adapter out to see if it would work better on batteries, but discovered that the batteries that were in it were too drained to function. I took the dead batteries out and plugged the AC adapter back in and it started working perfectly. Unfortunately I did not reinstall the dead batteries to verify whether the batteries were the problem or something else related to the AC adapter.

I seldom if ever use batteries in my GP. Although I rarely load at that range today the few times I have in the past I plugged the AC adapter it in the DC-AC inverter the bed of my truck.

The GemPro is higher resolution than the CM, so it's not surprising it's more sensitive outdoors (or indoors).

no poor on batt's...plug It in and it is acceptable

If you use batteries, be sure to take them out when you're finished using them. I don't think they ever turn "off" and I have never gotten more than one session out of a set of batteries. Seems like they die overnight. Batteries would probably last longer in a cordless arc welder.
