GEM PRO-250 elt scales

jlow I got my Gempro from JTV, a company I found on ebay. The price was good and JTV wasn't hard at all to deal with. They exchanged my first scale (the one that stopped working after only a day) and promptly sent me another, unfortunately the replacement scale (if I remember correctly) would not do anything. I then asked for and got a prompt refund. The packing which I considered to be lacking consisted of a UPS mailing box with nothing else inside to cushion the scale other than the Gempros original box. I told the JTV rep I talked to when I sent the first scale back that I felt the packing wasn't adequate. He obviously didn't agree with me as the second scale arrived packed the very same way but with a "handle with care" sticker on the outer box. I don't think the sticker did much to protect the scale in transit. I did have one other beef with the Gempro, I found the leveling screws on the base very difficult for my fingers to manipulate, so it was hard for me to level the scale easily. I probably will buy an electronic scale sometime in the future and will keep Old Will Knott in mind when I do.

Hi wmdron,

Thanks for the information as it leads to the problem with your scale – I appreciate it and I am sure others looking to buy would also feel the same.

I would agree that JTV is likely at fault not packaging the scale properly. The strain gauges in the scale is very sensitive and getting tossed around with no cushioning is a bad idea, especially if it rattle around in a partially empty box :-[. I’ve had my scale from Old Will Knott for 2 years now and it is still running. Can’t say I remember how it was packaged, but the fact that it still works and I have nothing but good memory dealing with Old Will Knott makes me think that they did not have the same packaging problem.

The leveling screws are not easy to deal with but having worked with larger and more expensive scales, this is generally true but more so with a smaller unit the GemPro.
