FYI if you plan on buying a McGowen in 6BR Norma

I purchased a 1x8 twist chambered in 6BR Norma Match from McGowen. I was told verbally that they thought the freebore was .06" which made since considering SAAMI specs and all. I bought a uni-throater to open the freebore up to .104" as suggested by Dave Kiff of PTG. When I went to load up dummy round for a 105gr VLD and 108gr Berger BT the rounds were not touching the lands as you would expect for a .06" freebore. Anyway, with a lot of help from you guys and Dave Kiff we figured out what the problem was.

The reamer that McGowen has is for a .1137" freebore. I confirmed all of this with Dave, and he even looked at their invoice to be sure. I closed the loop by calling McGowen back and giving them this information. Thanks to all on this site that helped figure this out, and to Dave at PTG,Great Guy!). Hope this information helps someone out in the future.

Take Care,
Bill

Crap. I have a McGowan 6BR barrel for my Savage on order. I ordered it from them because the 6BR reamer print they had up on their site had .06 freebore.

I ordered a 6mm BR Norma barrel from McGowen today and I asked about the freebore concern you posted above. They told me that their chambers are cut with a reamer obtained directly from PTG,Pacific Tool & Gauge) and that the reamer is set to Lapua brass specs.
