Future of AR-Tactical Poll

George, according to Aaron’s post on National Match, the rules will be posted by March 1.

I got it from part of the team that was proof reading the rules. We’re in that limbo of neither fish nor fowl in that the rules are approved but not yet posted.

Should have kept my fingers off the keyboard.

No worries, I was just wondering if I missed an NRA new release. I missed that one on USNM from Aaron. Maybe it was on the long range side of USNM. I don't go in that forum much

George, Aaron made a wide ranging post in the Atterbury Housing thread on NM.

I’m unable to get on the long range forum lately.

NO!!!
Not just NO, but HELL NO!! Make up your own division/class. Don't jack with F Class...This crap comes up every so often and is met with the same reaction.....if you want to play by a set of rules YOU want to use, make up your own division and have at it. Leave an established, internationally recognized discipline alone.
I'm struggling to see anything like a proposal to modify F-open or FTR in the portion you quote. Making the own division is-- as you suggest-- is precisely what I argued.

What's needed is a F-class division where a newer shooter can show up with a "precision" bolt gun in 6mm, 6.5, 7mm or whatever he wants, plop down on a basic Harris or Atlas bipod with a rear squeeze bag and lob some lead at an F-class face with others using similar gear. All that's needed for a class like this to work is an FTR-like weight limit, any caliber 338 or less, no muzzle brakes.

Fewer rules are generally better than more rules. (see: top fuel vs pro stock). Fewer rules keep costs down and reduce gaming. But it's important to have them, and have sound logic behind them.

Down south we already shoot that alongside our Fclass shoots. Called Field Precision.

Your recommendation certainly sounded like a proposal to add another division to F Class. If that is not what you meant, I apologize. If it is what you meant, then reread my reply.

I stand by what I said. Over the past few years, certain individuals have sought to bastardize F Class with ancillary "all inclusive" divisions. Not gonna happen.

F Class is F Open, F Standard (in OZ) and FTR...period.

"precision rifles" shooting at F Class targets is fine with me... let others feel the pain of a 1/2-MOA X ring at 1K. :)

But it is NOT F Class. And I will forever defend the integrity of the discipline.

F class is well defined and very popular.

I think there may be a market for a "precision rifle" class. The PRS matches cost more ($100 or more for one day), you shoot 10 stages with a max 90 seconds each stage. So you pay a lot to shoot fast ( 15 minutes total behind the rifle) in an environment not really conducive to learning.

F class costs less around here at least; $70 for two days, and hour behind the rifle each day, and an opportunity to learn from each shot.

The only thing PRS folks wont want to do is take off the brakes. And I will not compete next to braked rifles.

New rules for AR Tactical published. .223/5.56 seperate from all other calibers. :)
Still no sleds :( no clarification on cartridge length

Hi LVL,

The rulebook (Rule 3.17) says basically, any safe ammo, and at our range that is all that we care about.

If you were to use a crystal ball, the 'spirit of the game' might be mag length, but the rules committee didn't spell it out, so it is 'Any safe ammo' per 3.17.

This is exactly how I understand it.
