Fun day at the range.

I just wanted to share this day with everyone. My granddaughter’s boyfriend, home from college, accompanied us today. He’s a hunter, fisherman and avid outdoorsman. Just a nice young man who I had a chance to spend a bit of time with this past summer. It was a crappy day, cold, light mist in the air with occasional rain and light winds. My granddaughter loves shooting and we scheduled this day together to do some bonding. This was the first chance he had to shoot beyond 200 yards. We started at 100 just to check zeros. He brought his .308 & his dad’s 6mm. We made adjustments and moved out to 500, then to 600. Neither of them were intimidated by the distance. I was quite happy with their success. They both were ringing the steel consistently. Then it turned into a competition between the two of them as they moved to smaller and smaller steel. I loved it ! And chuckled internally the whole time. The activity caught the attention of a couple fellows at the opposite end of the range. They came up to watch the rivalry. We all enjoyed the show. We topped the day off with a great lunch at a tiny local restaurant, topping it of with the fantastic homemade pies. It was thoroughly a GREAT day. Good Shooting to all.

My youngest granddaughter calls me a couple of days ago and want to borrow a rifle to go deer hunting! I said absolutely not, I have tried to get her to practice with a CF gun for years (all she has shot is a 22LR) but she could never make time. Am I mean? I think not as I always stress safety first. she did go with her "friend" who has hunted for years, no gun. I have reached out again that if she wants to learn I will teach her!
I'm happy for you and your granddaughter! Bonding at the range, nothing better!

Thanks for posting. I need to start a range diary to reflect on those experiences. Especially after a tough day, like today.

I try to take all my grandkids to our matches whenever they can go. This spring my 8 year old shot a 600 yard match standing at the bench using a bipod and squeeze bag. We couldn’t get a stool tall enough for him! Last week my 13 year old girl beat everyone else at our 600 yard match. The guys dread seeing my 21 year old girl show up. She has been beating them a lot for 5-6 years. Always fun and the pics I have get looked at often.
