full custom actions

i am looking to build a 338 lapua

requirements
-stainless steel
-single shot
-needs an ejector
-big enough to hold up a really heavy long barrel 1.25-1.5 x 36 or 32
-will need 20moa base
-good triggers available 1.5-2 pounds

-would be nice to get a mcmillian stock " pre fit " but not a requirement


several actions i have looked at

any others i should look at?
what are advantages or disadvantages of these actions

I am looking at getting the surgeon XL action for just such a build in the future. I am planning on a switch barrel F-Open rifle with a bolt for each of the 3 big case head sizes. From then on I would only ever have to purchase new barrels when I wanted to try a new caliber out.

thanks i will take a look at the surgeon. thats a good idea about different bolts. i may go one size bigger and build a 338 lapua on a receiver that can handle the 408. that way if i decide i need to go bigger i can.

Also look at Defiance Actions, they do have a web-site just do a search. There are building a very good action. There lead time is just a couple of months, where I have had a action on order from Stiller for almost two years.

I was at a competition shoot last month and a fellow was there at a table with several Haverkamp actions. Real nice fellow, and I really like the smoothness and attention to detail (workmanship) in his actions. If I was in the market for another custom action... those would be tough to beat considering price etc. Made in Terra Haute, Indiana.

Pierce John makes a multi flat with an extended thread shank. He also makes an extended repeater for the .338 (not what your asking for). Give him a call very nice to deal with.

I have had a boat load of custom actions through the years and all the 1s being made today are just top notch. Its a hard thing to do and choose 1 with so many out their. Get on all the custom action sites and look them over and narrow down the 1s you are most interested in. Then i would call and talk to them with what you want and what you are wanting to do with the rifle. Pick the 1 you are most comfortable with and get it. They will all shoot super being built by a respected smith. My favorite actions and people i have delt with have been Stiller and Defiance. Their are many others i like as well but it just depends on what i am wanting to do with the rifle. Good luck on your adventure and don't get worked up over picking parts. Today their are so many fine actions and barrels, stocks and gun smiths. All you need is a pocket full of money and your dreams will come true. ;D
