A buddy of 30+ years calls me stating that he got a department post card from a police dept in the lower 48 states referencing a pistol.
Said pistol was lent to an Army GI buddy of his 4 years prior.
Time passes
Inquiring minds place a cell phone call to the GI.
GI got orders 3 years prior & has served a tour in the sand box.
GI states that pistol was stolen out of his un-locked truck from town/post on east coast.
I instruct my buddy to call the police department stating the pistol was lent to a friend.
(do not mention if it was sold to GI)
Research/processing fee is $150.00 from police dept.
Department post card is returned.
Research/processing fee is waived.
Pistol was sent to Troopers free of charge from lower 48 states.
My buddy stops by the Trooper Post to pick up said pistol that he hasn't held in 5 +years.
Same Hogue grips,both OEM S/S mags.
Pistol appears to have been fired a few times & cleaned.
(Buddy stopped by & I field stripped/inspected)
AK to East coast to West coast w/ 1 BATF 4473 transfer on file.
Sometimes it pays to do some paperwork.
My buddy is happy that his S&W 4506 is back in his hands.
(he won't lend any firearms ever again)
