Sneaky Pete--Better Look Again

I came across an old friend in the gun safe yesterday, took it out, messed with it a bit, and thought I'd tell you about it. The pictured CC holster is not of this century, nor the last 5 decades.

Heading back to RVN and a MACV assignment back in 1968, personal weapons were not allowed to be carried by military when in civilian clothes, like it previously was in 1964-65, darn it. Shortly after arriving at my advisory team near Nha Trang, I visited a Vietnamese leather worker there that had done some work for me in 1964. His task was to build a small 3.5" x 5" x 1" thick leather pouch, with flap, using snap connectors from a canteen cover that I provided to house an Astra .25 cal. The inner wooded pistol form holds another 22 rounds. I shot the little pistol one time during that year, at a salvage GI helmet at around 10 feet, and came out of the experience with mixed feelings! First, I was elated that the little round had penetrated completely thru the helmet. But secondly, I was very sad to know that that same steel pot that I had worn for so many years did not offer the protections I'd envisioned of it.
