FTR Chamber ICFRA Rule

From Kenny Proulx the ICFRA F-Class Committee Chair

After long discussions with the ICFRA member countries the F-Class Committee has chosen not to modify the chamber rule passed in September 2014 to specifically allow the use of necks with dimensions below SAAMI spec.

During the review process it became clear that many of the commonly available match reamers in use today have neck dimensions that are under SAAMI spec for a variety of reasons, including prolonging the life of components, and that enforcement of this rule would cause unnecessary hardships within the worldwide F-Class community. It is for these reasons that the DCRA FCWC Committee is choosing to limit the technical inspection of F-TR rifle chambers at the 2017 FCWC to maximum SAAMI dimensions for chamber, and minimum dimensions for headspace. The specific testing methods are still being discussed with members of the ICFRA F-Class Committee but they will be announced (and technical drawings made available) as soon as possible.

If you have any questions please let me know, or contact the 2017 FCWC Match Director, Scott Bissett at 2017fcwc@dcra.ca

Thanks for the update. That is great news, from my perspective. Still going to hold off choosing a reamer till after the specs are made available, but its a step in the right direction

If they don't post anything by 18 months after the 2013 FCWC (so... about February 2015), there won't be a spec to worry about for at least four more years.

I think the idea is to go with the rule as written. Just exactly how the DCRA will choose to check every ones compliance to said rule will be the issue.

We aren't making the spec, it has already been provided by SAAMI. If your reamer dimensions don't exceed those on the attached spec you will not have any issues. (Link may not open properly using Chrome)

A very highly regarded reamer manufacturer has already offered to create/provide us with a reamer that is at max SAAMI dimensions, which would allow us to simply drop fired brass or loaded rounds into a barrel stub to check for chamber size. Assuming this is agreeable with the folks we are consulting with through ICFRA I'll let you all know who to contact, and the name of the print so if you choose to make your own tester you can or simply check against your print if you are confident that your reamer was built to spec.

There will be no surprises.

Scott
