Frustrated

This was to be my first year getting into benchrest/target shooting.I ordered everything early fall 2008 and have had everything ready to go to the smith for months now. Everything took almost twice as long to receive as what I was told. I even arranged lengthy holidays staring in july/august in anticipation of my new play toys. The one point of frustration has been waiting for reamers.I ordered reamers in january. I was told it would be 8 weeks. As of 2 months ago they still hadn't shown up . So I called and was told it would be a little longer. It has now been nearly 5 months and still no reamers. The worst part is I prepaid for them. The longer these guys are in business, the more experience) the better they should be able to deterime how long something will take. This doesn't seem to be the case though. It is almost as though a few are completely clueless as to how long it will take them to do something. If I had just been told it would be 5-6 or more months from the start I would have ordered elsewhere.

It is far better to UNDER promise and OVER deliver.
If you were told something was going to be 3 months and it showed up after 2 months you would have a happy customer everytime.

The small companies that we deal with want to ship your parts and close the order. They run into problems with their vendors, their equipment, employees, on and on. Many of them have only one machine that does a particular operation or one employee that does that operation or runs that machine. THEIR suppliers also have problems and the dominoe affect is felt all the way to us that are sitting here waiting for a barrel, reamer, stock, bullets, etc. We just have to be patient. Or order a duplicate item from a second supplier, that is what I have done in manufacturing when I really, really had to have something in a timely manner.
Your statement, below) has been something that I have promoted for years, it is so true:
'It is far better to UNDER promise and OVER deliver.
If you were told something was going to be 3 months and it showed up after 2 months you would have a happy customer everytime.'

Canuck, this can be very frustrating. What reamer are you waiting on? Maybe someone here has just what you are looking for.

Actually I am waiting on 4 reamers, all turn neck and throated to dummy rounds).I was really jumping into this target thing with both feet as you can tell. I guess I just have to wait it out at this point as this year is a right-off as far as competition goes.I have never even been to a benchrest competition but still plan on going to a few events not to compete but to learn what it's all about and to hopefully pick up some tips from the veterans....

Well, I got off the phone yesterday and was told it would be an additional 2-3 months MINIMUM !!! This is simply unbelievable !!! I think this particular reamer maker has a prefered customer list that trumps all other previously placed orders so little guys like me just get continually bumped back time and time again.
So, I asked to have my payment returned and have since ordered from Pacific tool and guage.

Canuck,

I may hurt American's pride somehow, but for reamers, why not try Triebel in Germany http://www.triebel-guntools.de/

It is a family four generation firm,I know the second the third,Rolf and Jurgn), and now the fourth in the perspn of Michael Triebel who manage the international sales.

They supply first quality reaers,Black Forest traditional accuracy) in standards CIP Minimal sizes match quality virtually from stock next day, and custom reamers usually whirhin two weeks maximum.

Quality is outstanding, service same

They are not cheap, but superiority is equal to the eventual extra cost.

Labelled 'hand tools', they cross borders no problem.

I have had nothing but great satisfaction with Dave Kiff and Pacific Tool. I don't think you will be disappointed.

I think having a brand new rifle built is great for more experienced BR shooters but for newbies I recommend buying a good used gun and start competing immediately. Then after a few years if you want a new gun you will have the experience to know what you really want AND if it takes many months it won't be any big deal because you already have a rifle [ or 3 or 4 :) ] to shoot.

I don't mind waiting if it is made clear from the start. I have been waiting 6 months for a Schmidt and bender scope but was told when I ordered it would be aleast 6-9 months minimum. So even if it takes a year or more I don't have a problem with that as I knew what I was going into when I ordered it.
On the other hand I stressed in january how important it was I got these reamers asap or early april at the very latest .I also stated if it can't be done just SAY SO and I will order elsewhere. I was ASSURED it would be done within 8 weeks,10 weeks max. After 10 weeks I called and was told it would be an additional 2-3 weeks. So I thought: no sweat they will still be here in time.SO I was patient and waited 9 more weeks but still no reamers. So I call am was then told it would be another 2-3 months more minimum.Unbelievable, As I said previously I am sure little guys like me just keep getting strung along, getting bumped back time after time after time for 'preferred customers'.Looking back I don't believe there was ever any real intention of keeping a delivery date. In my books this kind of business practice is simply unacceptable.
When I say I am going to do something I simply DO IT.One of my hobbies is highend audio.I have been dealing in highend audio for years. I am continually trying out new gear, then selling/buying to try out different gear. I have had 2-10 grand cd players,4-10 grand amplifiers,5-25 grand speakers etc etc .Almost all of my dealing are online. If a problem arises and there is even going to be a slight delay of a day or 2 in delivery I will take it upon myself to let the individual know .
The bottom line isI simply want and ask for candidness and honesty. I don't think it is too much to expect.

You want a high end scope, check out the Marchs on Kelblys website. The S&B guys were all over them at the Shot Show.
