Anyone know of a good front sight base that will work with a heavy Palma contour barrel (typically 0.900" dia @ 30" length) *without* having to turn it down to a 0.750" tenon? Turning down a medium doesn't look too bad; relieving that much metal off a heavy contour barrel just makes me nervous - and looks weird.
Years ago when I first started out I had a Tompkins front sight base (barrel band that a dovetail front sight clamped onto) that fit on a 0.820 (factory 700VS) without too much machining... but that style of front sight then forces all the elevation changes to be done with the rear sight, which in turn screws with the head position and cheek weld. So I'd rather not go that route again. More interested in a side-bar front sight like the Ken Porter one I have now.
Thanks,
Monte
