Front Rest Bag Height Info Wanted..Please ;)

Guys,

Been curious for a bit now, due to many factors but am wonder if I could get some info on the various front rests out there and the lowest "height" unique that brand. Meaning with the rest at its lowest setting, what is the distance from the "surface" to the flat of the bag on which your forearm rests upon?

All surface factors aside, can a rest be to high, too low? Is not comfort & stability for the shooter being a main concern.. Prone F-Class shooting that is.

Not sure what you are getting at, but way more important is the REAR bag height. You can adjust the front rest to wherever it needs to be to get on target. The rear bag height is the one that matters for comfort...especially in F class.

4X is correct. Additionally, the height of the front bag will vary depending on the type of feet used and how far they settle into the ground. Another variable is the height spread between the flat of the forearm and the flat of the buttstock.

I use a Farley Coax II with an Edgewood bag up front and an Edgewood Tall bag in the rear. Just measured it at 7.5" from the flat of the front bag to the "ground" with the feet at their shortest. Stock is a Shehane Tracker II.

my JJ is 6 1/2" to the top of the bag.

my cadwell rock br is 7"

used both for F-class never had a problem getting on target with the cadwell. i changed the adjusters out with all thread and feet so i could get about another 1 1/2 to 2 inches up.

the JJ i made a board for it to sit on that gives me about 2" more. i just got this rest and only had it to my home club so i don't know if it will work out at the other shoots i go to.

from what i found the flatter the range the better. down hill can be dealt with by shimming the rear bag. up hill i think would plan old suck trying to shim the rest up.

Really appreciate the info. I do realize like Tod said, the important issue is rear bag. This has never really been an issue till last weekend end where I needed to borrow another rear spacer in addition to mine. Ahh, it was the berm from planet hellholes&more.

No, some time back someone had just mentioned that they thought my rest was high and that offsets the center of gravity. I cant see how rest height effects the cg of the rifle as they are two seperate items. After this last shoot, it just got me to wondering....again about front rest height that is

For a given rear bag, stock, and position of the rifle on the bags, on any given range, there can only be one correct front bag height that will put you on target. If you don't contemplate changing either your stock, or your rear bag, and you can get onto target on all of the ranges that you compete at, without the rest becoming wobbly because it is to near the end of its adjustment range, it would seem that there is nothing to be gained by worrying about bag plate height. Or am I looking at this incorrectly?
