F-Class Front Rest Height Range?

I want to get into F-Class (Open) shooting, and want to fabricate a front rest, both to save money and because I like to do metal fabrication.

So for the purposes of my question, I'm not really interested in replies like, "You're better off just buying one." I already know I'd be better off buying one, but I'm thickheaded.

I have a basic design in mind, but what I need to know now is, how much vertical adjustment do most of the front rests out there have?

For those of you who have a regular non-homemade front rest, can you tell me what the minimum and maximum heights are on yours, measuring from the surface the rest would sit on, to the surface your fore-end would rest on?

Thanks for any help.

Thank you, Mike.

So I guess the lowest overall height you can go would be around 6.5" (5.5" + the height of your bag + the thickness of the feet), right?

5.5 was the top of the bag. The feet can be driven into the ground if necessary and if soft enough for that. I use my rest more often at the top of that range and need to extend the feet occasionally. This is dependent on rear bag height and stock relationship.
