Front bag rider

Looking for opinions on both the JP Rifles and XLR front bag rider using a Bald Eagle Shooting rest. My chassis is both Arca and Mlok compatible so either is an option. Wondered if one were more stable than the other. Thanks in advance!

I would look at the LJW Precission bag rider, they are very nice. You can mount a picattiny clamp or ARCA clamp on them and he is making one that mounts to M-LOCs that should be out anytime if it's not already. It's one of the best I have seen. They come anodized black or silver.

I made some aluminum 3" bag riders on my milling machine with quick detach arca rail clamps. I can do a lot better pricing than the other options out there. PM me if interested and I can send you pictures

A JP mounted on my 457 Pro Varmint MTR using a 419 4.5" ARCA rail. It's rock solid and a whole lot cheaper than a $500+ custom BR wood stock. Under $140 for both pieces.

I'm getting a lot of interest in an arca rail bag rider. Hard to reply to all the PMs so figured id make a post here. I only have a rough prototype built. I plan on making a couple small changes.

Here are photos of the prototype i whipped up for myslef a while back. But I plan on using a QD style lever clamp instead of a knob style clamp so it doesn't limit travel on the bag by hitting the side. It's 3"wide and 1/2" thick aluminum plate. Fastened with a 5/16" cap screw and alignment is maintained with a bedded 3/16" SS material. I could use a fancier cool looking clamp, but to keep costs down, I use a simple arca clamp. It's extremely solid tho so no sacrifice there. Colored anodizing would be nice, but I'm not set up for that. I do have some really tough paints and automotive grade clear coat I could apply, but again, that would raise the cost.

Give me a little time to gather more material and if one of these riders interests you, let me know. I will try to help you guys out.

Thanks.
Brandon

I have also built one that was 4" wide from 3/4" thick plate with a longer clamp for a heavy rifle. Later cut side grooves in the sled so the sidewalls of the bag bite better.

So that's doable, but would have to be a special request as material cost goes up quite a bit.

What’s your estimated price?
Not exactly sure yet. I know material cost, but my time making them will ultimately determine price because I only have a manual mill with power feed table. Probably going to be in the $60-$75 range for a 3" wide sled. But I have some ideas to streamline building multiple units. If demand remains high, then I will talk to some local machine shops about producing the aluminum sleds for me on a CNC to save time.

Amazon sells picatinny to arca rail adapters but keep in mind, that would add ride height. I think I can source QD picatinny clamps I could mount to the sleds but they cost a little more.

One person asked about using a sling stud mount, but I wont be doing that because there's just no good way to make it solid and maintain good alignment and a level plane to the rifle stock.

I had a request to make a sled from Delrin. That could definitely be an option. Delrin machines way easier and faster than aluminum without much wear on tooling. Also slicker in the bag, lighter than than aluminum, and there's a few color options. Material cost is similar so not much difference there.

On the other side, aluminum will yield stronger threads for fasteners and better rigidity for a long service life. And sometimes a little extra friction in the bag under recoil is good thing.

Of course, a person could try different waxes and powders to fine tune friction levels on either material.

The biggest issue between Al and Delrin is the significantly higher cte of Delrin. Plastic moves a lot more than metal. Fortunately for me I only have to worry about 40° at the coldest for winter shooting occasionally, so it doesn't move too much. I built this one to fit into an anschutz rail so it can be allowed to move with the seasons and not warp around fixed attachment points.

@Ledd Slinger you ever try using aluminum C channel to make one? You can get 3" x 1.5" x 0.250" for about $50 for 4 feet. Could be a great option for round tube gun or AR platform forearms. Cut it at 5.875" long on a chop saw and you could get 8 of them out of a 4' stick, and $7/ea for base material cost is pretty dang cheap.
