From back in the day

I bought one in .223 back in 1979 for my new Savage model 340. The Savage has been gone a long time, still have the dies!

I thought I'd seen just about all of the older gear. I started reloading in 1971 (age 14) and started on (from what little I recall these days...) an RCBS press. I don't think I have never seen those tools you folks are showing in these pics. Pretty cool. I do remember the old Bonanza presses and a lot of the early Lyman presses.

I still use some of these whack-a-mole Lee Loaders occasionally. I've been sort of collecting them over the years. I refuse to pay the .410 price though.

My first was a Lee Nut Cracker and dies. I could not full length size, so I shot the minimum "accuracy" load. When the gunsmith put a new barrel on my 6 Rem Varmint, there was no rifling in the first three inches of the barrel from 39.0g of IMR 4350 with 85g Sierra HP. I drove a school bus in high school, and knew where all the crows were in the plowed fields.

I started off 64 years ago with Herters. I still use the powder measure for small pistol charges of flake powders. Perfect every dump.
Jeff, a few years back, I snagged a NOS Herter's 'Perfect' powder measure. Best measure ever for my handgun loads.

Good shootin' :) -Al

Loaded my first shotshells on one of those kits when I was 12. When I finally earned enough money to buy a 600 Jr. I thought I'd died and went to heaven! Loaded my first centerfire for a 222 with one of these and it worked well enough that groundhogs and coyotes were in trouble! Lol.
