From a dog’s perspective

1st 2016.JPG

A combination of several threads. “I saw one” and “best dog”

Well there I was, looking out the window on my usual guard position because I know dad like to see anything moving on the farm. He likes to see these big animals (deer) but scolds me if I chase them. All of a sudden I spot this brown/grey looking animal on the big pile of dirt. Hey dogs are color blind, give me a break here. (The “mound of dirt” happens to be one of the berms on dad's range). Anyhow, dad jumps up and grabs one of those sticks that go bang and goes out the basement door to some bench he shoots off of with those “bang sticks”. That animal runs into his hole, but dad whistles. It must be an animal call, but he just yells at me. Anyhow, dad suddenly shoots and startles the bejeeezes out of me, but I wasn’t scared. Then he takes me to the mound of dirt and here lays the animal. Dad tells me to grab it and I shook it like a towel. It didn’t fight back but I heard a lot of crunching going on. Dad thru him back in the hole he lived in, (I’ve got a warm house and a comfy bed) so it sucks to be him. Anyhow, I thought dad wanted me to fetch it, but when I did he told me to drop it. WTH, I’d wish he would make up his mind!

Dad was real happy because he said it was a day of firsts. 1st G-H of the year, 1st I had spotted for him, first harvest with the suppressed AR-10. In the G-H defense, he was obviously mentally challenged as he decided to make his home in dads range berm.

Zeus,
Nice post. Glad to hear you're providing some adult supervision for your 'ol man. Reminds me of something Rod Serling said, "A man will walk into hell with both eyes open, but even the devil can't fool a dog." And that sure is a good looking AR-10.

Glad to hear about your great dog. I had to put my friend of 12 years, Earl (3/4 lab 1/4 shepherd) down today due to liver cancer. I had no idea it would be so hard. He was my friend and when we lost a pheasant, he found it. We have hunted with shorthairs and wire hairs and old Earl always found the bird.
Goodby Earl.

As the late Paul Harvey would say "now for the rest of the story". I just spotted a young eagle eating the ground hog on the top of my range. Very cool!
