Freebore question

Ordered a 6mm BR reamer with min saami specs on case body, .2725 neck and zero free bore. Had my smith chamber a barrel for me and install it on my Rem 700 trued action. Received it today and shot several rounds to get some fired cases(I case 5 times) to set the dies up. What I noticed when taking some oal measurements with 55 gr Nosler Varmingeton seated to slight touch there was only about .177 of the base of the bullet in the case neck. I figured with the zero free bore I should have more bullet in the case. I feel if this bullet shoots with a light touch it won't be long before I can't use it.Same situation with the 64 Berger Colum bullet. My original plan was to shoot the light bullets (100-300 yds) and go with a 14 twist. Last minute I changed to a 10 twist so I could use heaver bullets later and chase the lands. Glad now I got the 10 twist. My question is does this sound right to you guys, the small amount of bullet in the case neck. TKS

I don’t have any of the bullets that you mentioned, but here is a picture of a Sierra 55 Blitzking set up for touch in my zero freebore 6BRA.

2.156 OAL and 1.685 CBTO.

You won't be the first guy to do this. Good thing you have a 10 twist! One little trick is to go to increased bullet tension on those short bullets and then when the throat wears you can go to more bullet jump or a longer bullet. It's really difficult to have a chamber that will shoot both short and long bullets. You can ask Remington about that when they made the 244 Remington! A cartridge that would shoot short varmint bullets at blistering speeds and still kill deer like lightning with 85gr bullets! Great idea on paper but not in real life. Make the most of it and enjoy what you have. A rifle that will shoot 70-100g bullets!

That looks about what the 55 gr Varmingoton looks like when seated to the lands. Thanks guys for the answers. Was just concerned that maybe I got a ill spec reamer.

Those 55s will shoot for you. At least for now until the throat moves on you. 70 Gr Blitzkings, 70 Gr TNTs, and Bart’s 80 Gr Dominators all shoot real good in mine as well.

Mine's the same. Those 55's are still really accurate. I shoot that and the 58Vmax which seats very noticeably further down..
