Free bore for 105 scenars

Really new to all of this precision stuff so sorry for the questions. Just had my Krieger 6BR chamber done. I’m shooting factory 105 scenars for now. My chamber is.272 neck.115 free bore1 degree lead angle. Barrel 4 groove match contour, finish length is 26”. After reading a lot more info maybe should have went 8 twist and shorter free bore? So as the throat wears I would still be okay? This is for 600 yards local club events. Your thoughts?

Your going about free bore the wrong way. Seat the bullet of your choice with the pressure ring halfway or in the middle of the neck. Have your Smith throat it with a throating reamer so it just leaves a tiny mark on the bullet from the lands. Plenty of room in load development to go both directions.

At the risk of stirring up the mud a little bit, I'd think your .115 freebore number is a bit short. I've shot VLD's, Hybrids, SMK's and bullets from at least 4 different custom bullet makers and, if I had to pick an all around number it would be somewhere in the .145 range. If your smith has a throating reamer AND KNOWS HOW TO USE IT he can push your freebore out to accommodate the exact bullet that you plan on shooting.

I have shot those 105 Scenars in a .93 freebore with no issues at all. Maybe I did something different but they shot fine.
Just an added note, I’ve also shot a very similar bullet in a .120 freebore and they shot very well.
Again.. maybe I’ve done something different but the freebore seemed a non factor.

"Factory 105 Scenars"
does this actually mean you are shooting Lapua Factory 6BR ammunition?
If you are then there is no need to worry about the free bore you have because you can't adjust the bullets without a bit of a PITA.
.115 free bore 1 degree lead"
.115 freebore is okay. Not a criticism but maybe next time try having a more detailed conversation with the gunsmith as to what he should do for the type bullets you will be using.
1 degree lead angle? ar you sure it isn't 1˚30? 1˚ seems odd to my thinking. But I have been wrong before.
"should have went 8 twist"
You don't mention actual twist of your barrel. I have long used nothing but 7.5 twist barrels and Krieger is my first choice.
My most given piece of advice to shooters who are "wrapped around the axle" on the details after they already had the work done it to pay less attention to that and more to getting optimum performance from the package you have.

Free bore is dependent upon the rifle chamber, the bullet. Any rifle will be set to a specific distance. Even those chambered with the same reamer will be slightly different.
