104So over all what would be a good free bore to have using SMK 107's and Berger 105's. With a .272" no turn. And a Krieger 26" barrel. Thanks Larry
Which case, standard 6BR, Dasher, BRX or? For the Dasher and BRX .140" is about perfect. So over all what would be a good free bore to have using SMK 107's and Berger 105's. With a .272" no turn. And a Krieger 26" barrel. Thanks Larry
This is the approach I would use hands down I don't like short life in a good barrel. One thing to keep in mind. The freebore WILL wear and sometimes/most times sooner than you would like/expect.
Nothing worse that having your favorite bullet seated where you want it and it ends up nowhere close to where it use to be as far as reaching the lands.
Got rid of a pretty new barrel just because of that. Someone else liked that much freebore. Go short and don't look back. And if you go short, consider using lighter bullets.![]()
One thing I'll add is the fact that ALL my rifle barrels (except my gas guns) are chambered with ZERO freebore. I start off with the lightest bullets I can find and go heavier as the throat wears. My 6 BRs (a couple of them) are up to 60s now and that's after three or four hundred rounds. All loads are set at a .010 jam into the lands. I only bench shoot and have dumped a couple of cases full of powder in the action. I was ready when it happened. My final goal is accuracy. Five shot groups that can be covered with a dime are the norm. (boring but fun)
At times, even better.
