Just get a 12 and be safe.
Bill, I've done lots of 6BR's on 14 twist barrels and shot up to 74gr bergers from them, as short as 19" on a rifle. All were great shooters! I think you'd be just fine with a 14. A 13.5 should be safer and a 13, a tad overkill, IMHO. That said, a 12 will be more flexible if you ever wish to try a bit heavier bullets, and I'm not sure it leaves any accuracy on the table, vs the slightly slower twists. If you do a zero fb and a 12, you could at least play with bullets up to around 80 grains and throat it longer, later, if you decide to optimize things. Thanks for the advice. I was thinking 0 free bore with the light target bullets, is what I needed.
I have 1 more question rate with a 16" to 17" barrel. And I think I have my answer. But, advice from here is almost always, good advice.
I have asked barrel and bullet makers, and their advice is 50/50.
It will probably be 17" long. Is a 13 twist the best choice. Because of velocity loss from shorter barrel?
