Free-All

I put a tight patch/jag in the chamber, give the barrel a shot of Free All(barrel horizontal, straw on the nozzle) push the patch out. Than I clean, flush with Free All after cleaning. Patch to dry, than the Hornady OS clean/lube(gray can).

If your using an oil based solvent, Montana, Hoppes, Butches, ext. you dont need to follow with an oil. Just a dry patch. If your using a water based solvent like Bore tech, I would use an oil. Montana extreme makes a bore oil I have used and I liked it. 3 shots and you could trust the barrel. Many of the penetrating oils seem to gum up over time. Kroil is really bad. Not sure how it got such a following in the gun world.

I have soaked overnight for effectiveness with the barrel pointed downward to minimize freeall creeping, as towards the trigger or getting into the bedding. It's a penetrating oil, and does that quite well.
That's exactly what my buddy said. I'm thinking more on the lines of extended periods- like a few weeks. Do you think it would lift residue and fouling more than it does in a short cycle?

No.. It is an excellent solvent for powder residue, but only helps a little for hard carbon, Wet the bore and scrub with a brush, let it soak an hour or so, spray, brush a bit and patch. Borescope and if there is still carbon in the freebore area then you will probably need to use an abrasive.

The majority of carbon seems to come out easier if you can get it brushed & soaking before it sets too long. Unsure if ambient temp related, time related, or my imagination. I take too much crap to the range already, so save the cleaning for at home.

When returning home, an O-ring bore guide, a few wet patches, c. 10 strokes-wet brush, & more wet patches that can soak until I get a round tuit. Maybe a day or three... even a week, seems to make further cleaning easier. Free All patches always seem to have varying shades of blue on them. Unsure if it's a reaction to copper or something else going on, so brushes get a rinse with alcohol after use.

Been experimenting with different cleaners after the initial soak, but lately Free All has been the 1st liquid sometimes mixed (not combined... yet) with Shooters Choice. Last wet patch is also Free All, then a dry patch. Good smooth barrels get Lock Ease & ugly factory barrels dont.

Edit: It's also a good prelube & final solvent/flush on wet patches when using abrasives. I've been using RemClean (Gold Medallion) every couple 100 rounds to get all the nasty out when needed.

Got a gallon from amazon (yeah, I know) a couple of years ago... it was $25 cheaper then too. They also have gallons of Shooters Choice if anyone else still uses it.
