Just curious for the guys that are using Free-All, once your barrel is clean do you also leave a light coating as a preservative until the next time you shoot? I normally use another oil or Lock-Ease if I plan to shoot in the next day or so but the Free-All seems to be just as good as any other oil I have tried.

The word Hydroplane comes to mind with that left in the bore.
I have been using a patch of CLP followed by a dry patch for many years. I am just wondering if Free-All might have something in it that either will not work as a preservative or something that will harm the bore.
Yes I would like to know also. The Free All has a much more chemical smell to it than a oil product, I’m Leary of leaving it in the bore.
Agreed, but I don’t think it will really do anything for long term storage.
I use a couple of patches of Free All to help remove the carbon. I never use it when I am storing my firearm.

Hornady one shot cleaner and lube, after cleaning/dry patches. Great corrosion protection. And it is dry.

My rifles are stored muzzle up so when I put them away I use a patch well saturated with Rig gun grease and make sure the bore is well coated. A liquid ( oil/solvent) may work it's way back to the chamber/bolt/trigger and cause problems as well as leave the bore somewhat dry. Works for me.

I tried Freeall after I thought my barrel was clean (including borescope) and was shocked at the amount of crud that still came out. Used it for several years now, but lastly flush it out with lighter fluid to minimize the number of shots to season the barrel. Plus I don't like a penetrating oil sitting in the rifle, seems risky. Outside of an abrasive, its the best chemical cleaner I've tried.
I wonder how it would work out to just soak the bore with this and then put the rifle away and patch it out before the next use? A buddy of mine says that Freeall seems to work better the longer that it can soak and has seen no ill side effects from allowing it to sit in the bore for over 24 hours.

I have soaked overnight for effectiveness with the barrel pointed downward to minimize freeall creeping, as towards the trigger or getting into the bedding. It's a penetrating oil, and does that quite well.
