Forum members -- Pls Use AccurateShooter.com to get All our Updated Content

Folks, this is a reminder that we completed a major site upgrade four months ago. We launched the www.AccurateShooter.com website, which has nearly all the content from the original www.6mmbr.com site, and much, much more.

So what's the big deal? Many of you guys are using AccurateShooter.com already. That's good. But we've been tracking our stats, and way too many folks are still going through the old site. And it seems like every day I encounter a user that doesn't know we've updated the site.

The new site has a bigger format, and the search tools are much, much better. We have some very helpful features -- like a "print layout" button and buttons that can increase the font size on the page for easier reading.

To visit the new Home Page, simply click where it says "AccurateShooter.com" on the very top left of this page. You can also type www.accurateshooter.com in your browser and bookmark that address.

NOTE: We will NOT be putting updated content on www.6mmbr.com -- it's too hard to build articles for two formats. So if you want to see the new articles, reviews etc. go to the new site.

Quick Path
And for you lazy folks who say 6mmbr.com is easier to type, we've registered a forwarding domain. You can get to to our new home page by simply typing accshooter.com in your browser.

Repeat: Just type "accshooter.com" in your browser to get to our new home page with all the recent content.

I'm guilty of using the old site :( here's why:

Got to the url bar at the top of Firefox, and type "6br" then hit enter ... that's it, I'm on the site. That's quicker than pulling up a bookmark, or typing "accurateshooter."

I guess I need to simply break that old habit :)

Once you have logged into the new website, add it to your Favorites, and then a couple of clicks gets you there and no spelling out of website is required!
QED!

Why not just put a redirect in from 6mmbr.com to accurateshooter.com? There are various ways you can accomplish that easily, depending on what type of equipment/technology you have... then you don't have to rely on end users to update their habits, which as you are finding out, is difficult at best.

I don't think all the content on 6mmbr.com has migrated over to accurateshooter.com. For instance, not all the Guns of the Week have made it over yet.

That would be a good reason not to do a wholesale redirect then, although it is possible to do selective redirects depending on your setup... anyhow, I just figured it might be easier than trying to re-educate end users.

I think if you're going to have to manually go through each article in 6mmbr.com to add a selective redirect to its accurateshooter.com equivalent on an article by article basis, you might as well just use the time to migrate the article itself over. But yeah, it's something that should be done soon so you can put in a redirect for the whole site.

Yes, not 100% of the content has migrated.

We are also working on some speed-ups for the new site, and some further user interface enhancements. I may also upgrade the server. We want all that done before we make it "mandatory" to use the new site.

The old site works fine, we mainly want people to know the new site exists and should be the default for most users. I've had people say "I've been going to 6mmBR.com and you guys haven't done anything new in months." Then I point them to AccurateShooter.com where they can find dozens of new articles, review, features etc.

It was easy for me, its the main place I am at on the web so I made it my home page ;) and I did it as soon as the new site came out. Thanks forum boss for such a great site.

Why on the main page, does "Contact" still say "mailbox@ 6mmBR.com???

That's still a valid email address. There was no real reason to change that, and its easier to type than mailbox@accurateshooter.com .

It also keeps the mail spammers/spoofers/hackers from attacking the accurateshooter.com system.
