Forum Behavior -- Show Respect and Avoid Politics

I've gotten them out with bore brushes inserted from the breech just like when cleaning. If it's a normal pressure load, the remains usually pull out following the brush. If that fails, you can use an aluminum cleaning rod to try and engage the mouth of the stuck case at the throat. If you're able to make good contact, a tap with a light hammer may dislodge it. If that should fail, you can soak the chamber in Hoppe's hoping that the brass bond will be broken enough to have the steps mentioned work. It takes Hoppe's about three days to really start working on the brass. Be patient. If that fails, it's time to see a gunsmith, or a good machinist able to turn a fitted broken case remover. If the case let go due to high pressure, you may want to see a gunsmith to insure the chamber still gauges correctly.

Would it be possible to include a section titled "Political Crap". I don't think the Main Message Board (or anywhere else for that matter) needs to be infected with personal political views. I don't believe we should have to sift through a list of political topics to find threads that discuss subjects relating to shooting.

... I guess I kinda think that we all need to stay "on our game" when it comes to what's going on, how to defend our activities, and carry on an informed and intelligent dialogue.

I think that if anything of a political or controversial nature was stuck in a separate forum, many of us would never see it, simply because it isn't usually pleasant to go there. I include myself in those folks. I guess I think that we need to see a lot of this stuff, "like it or not." jd

Then your second point represents a counter argument to your first point about what we all need to do. If we need to do it, put it in a place where those who "need" it can find it.
I get enough of this stuff, political parties notwithstanding, all day and all evening long and I don't want to have to deal with it on a forum that's intended to focus on "accurate shootng".

German Salazar recently closed his very valuable ShooterJournal.com Forums to new posts. The archives remain up, but there are no new posts since 2/1/2008.

The reason was that it was taking him an increasing amount of time every week to police the threads and insure that his members were not getting into verbal fist fights.

If folks want to keep this Forum going, for God's sake treat other members with respect.

There seems to be a pattern that sets things off. Poster A, who assumes he is WAY smarter/more experienced, will make a snide or sarcastic remark to poster B. This leads to an escalation, with B barking back at A, and A responding with insults. Then, guess what, Poster A emails me complaining that "Help Mr. Moderator, you should ban Poster B!! He called me an over-bearing SOB". I go back to the thread and -- guess what -- it was crystal clear what set off the dispute -- the sarcastic, disparaging, or "clever" insult by Poster A.

I'm convinced now that, in some situations, Poster A is actually looking to get into an online sparing match... baiting other posters into replying.

Folks... we're all too adult for that.

Likewise, I want to say in NO UNCERTAIN TERMS that the mere fact that you THINK you have superior knowledge about a particular topic than another Forum member does NOT give you the right to belittle or insult others.

Just this week I've seen two instances where Poster A unloaded all over other members, scathing them for being inexperienced numbskulls. Well, turns out Poster A's knowledge of the situation was far from perfect too. One thread involved stock bedding. I actually took the time to call Alex Sitman and Tom Meredith, two of the most respected stockers in the country, to see whether Mr. A was correct. Guess what, both said the Mister A's advice was not very sound, and that the practice advocated by other posters, whom Mr. A called "stupid") was the better way.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone...

I don't want to see Forum members belittling others or being "cute" by using snide or sarcastic language to make other members look foolish. I'd say that, more often than not, those posters who loudly announce they have "superior knowledge", have a lot to learn also....

Keep that in mind -- that we ALL have a lot to learn -- and be courteous.

It also helps to show some humility. Consider this, most sports historians would name John Wooden as the greatest college basketball coach of all time, by a large margin. But if you have ever talked to Coach Wooden, and I have), the first thing you notice is that he doesn't disparage other coaches, call them "fools" or "morons" or "losers". He will render advice but he will never say "this is the only way to do it".

Wooden is actually quick to preface his thoughts by saying "it's a long time since I've coached... so much has changed ... this is only one man's perspective." He doesn't say "SHUT UP you boobs and listen to me because I'm so smart."

But guess what, the man is 97 years old and people are still listening.

Would it be possible to advise where German Salazar's archives are posted, please? Thank you!

Update:
Thank you forum boss. Now that the garbage is emptied we can get back to the shootin' stuff.

Taking a dump on someone's for sale thread is extremely rude in my opinion. There's a lot of it going on.

Our Classifieds Rules clearly state that this is NOT tolerated. If you see egregious examples of this, notify the admins and we will take action. A couple guys have been booted from the board for this behavior. I should add that a Forum ban is permanent, forever, with no discussion, no appeal EVER. You're done, gone, toast, history.

Forum Boss

Thanks for killing all the "Trump" threads. I come here to exchange gun info, and this is not the place to argue politics. I am one of the very few left leaning members.
I know, I know, don't click on it if you don't want to see it But, some times I get curious. So much hate out there, that some times I have to put my 2 cents in.
I try to be civil, respectful and what I get back is name calling and insults.
Thanks for taking it down.

Not wanting to sound like a Nazi, but in this day and age I think a policy of zero tolerance for behavior that is derogatory, insulting or threatening needs to be in place. It is always easier to ease up on the reins as opposed to trying to rein in a runaway team. If you've nothing positive to add, cease with the lip! This is a forum about accuracy and reloading. Let's stick to that.

Actually, I think we all appreciate the swift and decisive action. Enough is enough and personally I'd rather talk about achieving accuracy and improving my score. The rest was settled in the recent election and cheap rhetoric either way won't change a thing and certainly not how accurate our loads shoot.

In the past few days I have banned two long-standing members, savagedasher and alinwa. The first was banned for publishing dangerous load suggestions. Alinwa posted claims that a 6mmBR could safely match or exceed velocities of a .243 AI which is patently false. Alinwa also posted extremely hostile, off-color insults directed toward other Forum members and the site administrators. This won't be tolerated.

Members who break the rules or post dangerous information will be banned quickly and permanently. There will be no hand-holding or discussion.

Often the worst-offending members have big egos and they think the Forum should bend the rules to tolerate them. The reality is that, with 74,000+ members, we don't need ANY particular member. Break the rules, and you're history. Simple as that.
