Enough Already -- This is NOT a Political Forum

Thanks Boss.

If it was me I would just start locking all the Political treads...
Dispite this thread that tells folks Please no Political Threads... yet they continue. I come here for quality information. I can go else where for the ranting.

Simple request. And thank you for all your time and effort in making this the #1 site for accuracy minded folks.

Apparently some Forum members are not getting the message. We are getting multiple 'rant and rave' threads posted on the SAME subjects -- sometimes minutes apart. These threads often contain threatening or improper language. Some posters are also showing complete intolerance for other Forum members' views, if they don't agree 100%.

This does NOT promote a rational and informed dialog.

Some people seem to want to transform this forum into something it is not. If you want to scream about "commie libtard anti-gunners", talk abortion policy, or compare democrats to satan, there are multiple sites where you can do that. But don't do it here.

But starting thread after thread with the same stuff is counter-productive. You are interfering with the normal and proper function of this site, you are driving long-term members of the Forum away, and you are helping to make this site a target for third party hacking.

We will be instituting warnings to guys who just don't get the message. This can and will involve "time-outs", i.e. temporary loss of posting privileges.

My late father told me as I was entering the workplace, "Never discuss religion or politics in your workplace". That turned out to be very sound advice. It is also good advice for a gun forum.

Folks, I am with the Boss here. This is the best web resource we have for the shooting sports and reloading info. Let's not degrade it to a free for all political rants. There are plenty of political venues that you can voice an opinion. Let's not make this forum one of those. Take the high road here please.

While I can agree that politics should stay separate from this sport and hobby for so many of us the fact is that the right to do exactly what we do on this site is being directly attacked. I understand that keeping politics off of here keeps it civil and polite but we won't be legally allowed to have this site due to the fact that people sell firearms through here. This is literally an online gunshow were you can trade learn hangout and discus our sport. The gov will shut sights like these down if they suspect the web page is being used to arrange transfer of a firearm without going through the new channels that would be enplaced. And the fact of the matter is that everyone that is on here has some sort of pro gun feelings due to their own personal interest in the sport and therefore are more likely to speak out to their leaders and politicians about how they feel.

Here is the deal.

1. There are dozens of other sites where the principal focus is gun-related political topics. Those who need to condemn the "non-believers" and "howl at the moon" can do so to their heart's content on those other sites.

2. The constant barrage of one new thread after another has been choking the top-level sub-forum, pushing other actual shooting/markmanship topics aside, and requiring me to spend hours a day to try to restore a sense of order.

3. Typically, within 6-7 posts, the "hot-button" threads degenerate because one fellow attacks other posters' opinions or lack of perceived "gun rights zeal". Basically it comes down to "you don't love the Second Amendment as much as I do, so you should shut up and suck eggs." The same personalities keep doing this over and over again, and frankly, I am getting fed up.

4. These threads are a classic case of "preaching to the choir". We are all here because we are involved in the shooting sports and we all support gun rights. If people REALLY wanted to help the cause, they would be making COGENT, RATIONAL, and COMPELLING fact-based arguments to try to change the opinions of NON-gun-owners and others in our society who don't understand the need for gun freedoms. Logically, that means getting on OTHER boards and making your case there, not here.

5. The single best practical thing we can do to help secure our long-term firearm rights is to introduce new people to hunting and shooting sports, NOT alienating potential new shooters with divisive rhetoric or threatening statements.

6. I have received dozens of emails from Forum members imploring me to lock down one thread after another. Many long-term members have stressed that they feel that they will be berated or "called out" if they post on a "hot topic" thread at all, because those with the extreme opinions condemn other forum members whom they perceive as "compromisers".

7. Having worked 7 days a week for more than EIGHT YEARS to build this site and help it establish a reputation for a high level of reasoned and well-informed discussion, the last thing I want is for this place to become a free-for-all -- a "gunners' version of Democratic Underground".

8. A major shooting website, SnipersHide.com, was recently hacked by a sophisticated and concerted attack by anti-gun hackers. With every new "rant and rave" thread that "throws down the gauntlet", we only make this site more of a "prime target" for such attacks.

As a last point, let me be perfectly clear. I am getting truly fed up and the next step is to ban members who have shown they are incapable of acting in the best interest of the vast majority of Forum members.

Wouldn't it be easier just to tell your two or three whiners to piss off? Tolerance and wishful thinking have brought us to where we are today.

Point well-taken. One of the problem children just got a warning and earned a 24-hour 'time-out'.

Charlie, don't you think you waited a bit to long to bring this up? You only let it get out of hand by 2 weeks. Sorry, but you make the rules, not me. waynej

If there's anyone on this forum that thinks all this bitching is going to accomplish other than causing bad feelings amongst the members here....then they're two full bubbles off of plumb!! :-\ ::)
