can we have an acceptable method of calling someone on BS if they are outright BSing on a subject??

Lots of newbies come here fro good and correct information

If someones info is outright BS- how do we call them on it??

Id much prefer to call someone on their BS than let it go unchallanged and maybe someone get hurt form their information

Hi to all
I must agree with not using childish or debasing comments, i have not been a member long, I have though always enjoyed this site as a very professional place to discuss topics we love.
Please lets all keep it that way.

I agree totally man. If someone is wrong and don't know any better, they need help. For those that are just trying to sound like they know, but really don't they need help in more ways than one. For those that just want to argue and find fault they need to be putting their energy someplace else.I don't mind a bit if I am wrong and someone shows me the light because I am here to learn and that should be everybodys attitude. Here's the point guys,

Disagreements are par for the course - no harm, no foul. Explaining why you feel a particular statement or theory is incorrect is part of why discussion forums exist. The issue is inappropriate language or behavior.

Personal attacks=bad.
Profanity=bad.

Pretty simple, actually. We all know that 99% of the board members here understand and practice civil behavior. It's a tiny minority of participants here, who seem to think the rules don't apply to them) that make snide remarks, vent hostility, cause hard feelings and give this fantastic website a completely unnecessary black eye. People who then give those inconsiderate posters a pat on the back are contributing to the nastiness. I'm embarrassed that our over-worked Moderator has to address social skills with grown adults.

I can honestly say while Im fairly new here and to BR in general I think this is one of the if not the best forums available to us that are interested in shooting sports. And while I have asked many questions, that Im sure some may have felt were stupid, I never got one negitive or smart A** response.Everyone here has been nothing but helpful and has increased my learning curve of this sport ten fold!! So THANK YOU to all that partisapate in the shareing of info here this forum, and the people, and info are truely the best on the web !!

Hi Yo!

I just read through most of the posts in this topic. I know what it is like to have to police your own forum. My forum has 300+ messages per day, and there are quite a few rotten apples. You should consider having a few extra moderators to troll your boards for you to get some load off of your shoulders. Pick some people you trust and that are online a lot, that read most posts anyway.

It really will be a relief for you to have some backup, or just deligate it for the main part to your mods. Gives you more breathing room to add info to the site,do the fun things ;) ).

Let me know if I can help...

The recent furor over Dan Cooper's support of Obama led to some very insidious remarks and name calling on another site which led to a forum being cancelled. This was the second or third time the personal attacks went way over the top on this particular site; causing the moderator,s) to delete the forum. Unfortunately, many people who posted mature, intelligent posts are paying for the reckless and caustic remarks of a few. If you are unwilling to say to a man's face, eye to eye, what are willing to say on the internet, there's a good possibility you shouldn'y say it. That should be a rule of thumb that passes the legal 'reasonable man' test.

Let me just make a few observations around what I consider to be mature posts from what I use as a yardstick to judge a person. There will always be disagreements and differing opinions. State your case in an intelligent fashion, argue your case in an intelligent and mature fashion. You may not disagree with your opponent but when you resort to name calling and childish behaviour, in my opinion, you've just lost your credibility and your argument.

We are all shooters and gun owners. The one element we can ill afford, is division in our ranks. The liberal elite want to disarm and destroy us. Let's not give them an advantage by destroying ourselves from within.

i have a case seperation in my encore barrel, would like to know how to remove the remainder of the case. The case seperated about one half inch in.the cal. is 6BR,would appreciate any help.

I agree 100 percent. I recently chose to register for my first forum [6mm br} only because of the nature of the comments and the civility of the posts that i have seen. this group of people seem very very inteligent and willing to help out the so called [newbies], Mainly myself but anyway great comments everyone and thanks alot for all your advice so far.

Your doing a great job, but you must have your hand full with all the things required to run a web site. I have been a Moderator on another, and lessor) gun web site for several years, If I could help as a Moderator, let me know.
Mike.

I was a member of a well known forum with lots of members and there was a post asking? show me your best group. so I posted one my best which happened to be a 3 shot group one hole with my sako trg 300 win mag. Anyway it developed into an argument about 3 and 5 shot groups with people disparaging remarks on how it looked like it had been photo shopped, and it was a fake.
That was my last post of that forum im not interested sharing personal stuff with people that are jealous and looking for an argument, Im glad were not going down that road here. iv only been here a short while and it seem there are some knowledgeable people here good to see that, iv been shooting for 30 years and im just turning 47 now and i hope there is many more to come.

I've just returned after a 4 year break and am disappointed to find this site too is suffering the twin evils that are people with a real attitude problem and plummeting posts. The latter being far more to do with the former than simply a down turn in the economy at my reading.

6mmBR is too good a site to let pass into history but is not that assured if the Forum dies however great the Home Page looks and the free info to be gleaned therein?

I've tried 'bumping' a few old posts, where I've something positive to communicate, and posted a few new ones but these generated about as much interest as is to be found in the 222 these days!

How do we turn this around Forum Boss?

Cheers

Klench,

Glad you're back, but I'm sorry you've perceived some problems.

1. If you find "bad behavior" in a post or a thread, just drop me a line. You can send a private message or send email to: mailbox@6mmBR.com

... as to succombing to evils, I'm not so sure about that. In the past few days I've received a number of emails from recent members who state they are "delighted" and "amazed" that this forum does not suffer from the pissing matches and ego duels found on many other gun forums. So I guess it's a matter of your perspective, or perhaps what threads you read.

As to reduced traffic, the opposite is in fact true. Forum traffic is up, membership growth rates are up, and posting is at an all-time high. What I think may be going on is that 1) it is not obvious how to start a new thread (this is one of my critiques of the software we went with -- other forums have a big button that says START TOPIC; 2) the search function works a LOT better than before; and 3) many forum members are spending a lot of time in the Classifieds area which is booming.

Also, it may be possible that you haven't configured your settings to show new posts. The folder icons on the main page should turn gold if they contain any new posts.

We may have created a problem in the forum transition as some of the "old hands" haven't bookmarked the new location, or they haven't logged in again because they forgot their password. All I can say to anyone reading who has lost their password AND changed email addresses (which defeats auto-retrieval) is to just email me and I can provide your password from the old forum.

Klench--

One reason topics may go for some time unanswered is: a) It's an important question that requires some expert knowledge or investigation. You can find boards where numbskulls will instantly hit the reply button and pontificate on subjects about which they know nothing. I think you'll find here that people try to post when they have solid info to deliver. If they don't have that they stay silent.
