Forming 222 Brass

can 222Rem be formed from 223 brass with a FL or body die or is a forming die needed? Should the cases need to be annealed after being formed?

They can be formed from .223 but should be annealed and, depending upon manufacturer, neck turned. Winchester or Remington cases might not need turning but check the neck thickness. Lapua or Lake City cases should be turned. All that is needed for forming is a .222 FL sizing die and trim to length.

The question to ask is: why? Lapua, Winchester and Remington all sell new .222 cases. Loaded to recommended pressures, the cases should last a long time. I use Lapua .222 cases and they have now gone 16 loads with no noticeable problems.

Fat Albert, there's a very good RCBS file & trim die that I highly advise you to purchase. And a 5 to 8 sec annealing with a blowtorch won't do any harm to your military brass and it will definitely help
