Question for you 20VT guys!

When forming 20VT brass from .223 do you find a difference in performance on your targets when using LC brass or Winchester brass or other brass? Or once formed to 20VT does the make of brass seem to matter in your accuracy with everything else the same?

You will need to make sure the necks are turned & uniform thickness for free release of the bullet open firing. You may need to adjust optimum powder charge from brand to brand due to different case volume. I have used several brands in my .20 VT, accuracy has been consistently good with all brands. Brass life has not been as good with Rem head stamp brass.

Thanks Terry! Sounds like the 20VT is not too fussy when it comes to accuracy with different brass but like most cartridges brass will make just enough difference to adjust powder accordingly. I have lots of Winchester and LC brass and will use the Winchester first. :)

+1. It's an accurate round with just about anything you use.

I have fired groups with new, unformed, 221 Fireball brass right beside groups with formed (30 deg shoulder) 221 FB brass and the difference is minimal. The edge going to the formed brass. Then I have fired groups with brass formed from "mixed" 223 brass and still very accurate. I can sort the brass by brand, but it doesn't make it shoot all that better. My loads were well below MAX so I didn't worry about over-pressuring due to varying case volumes. If you are going to push a load towards the upper ends of pressure, I would definitely recommend sorting your brass by brand.

The one thing I really like about LC 223 brass is that the bodies tend to be a little softer than some other brands so it makes forming the shoulder a lot easier and you end up getting a lot more cases that don't have folds on the shoulder. If using harder brass like Winchester, it helps to anneal the body of the case before forming the shoulder.
