Forming 20 PPC from Lapua 7.62x39 cases- possible??

HI
over this side of the pond.

Lapua 220R brass cost $165/100 while Lapua 7.62x39 brass cost $50/100 or less for bulk.

How much extra work to reform 7.62x39 to 20 PPC???

Is it worth the effort of a couple of extra bushings to neck the brass down in steps?? how big a step should I take each time??

Should I turn first then neck down or neck down a couple of times then turn to remove excess neck dia then finish neck down and fireform

OR???

Please fully step through the process so this dumb a*se monkey can follow.

Awaiting on response from G'smith as to what neck his reamer is.

Going to be built with a locally sourced 1:9 S/S barrel- Sako HV fluted profile finished about 27 inches.

Thanks a lot guys

This isn't a drect reply to your question, but some people here have tried the Lapua 7.62x39 for 6PPC and the brass is bigger at the case head by several thousandths.
Have your smith check this because they have found it is too big to fit a typical br chamber.

Thank for that

Haddn'tthought about the looser mil chambering being larger than the PPC in and other way than the neck.

Will have to check with the smith to see what he says.

On your original question, Redding makes form dies to make 6PPC out of 7.62x39.
You can get them from Sinclair and probably others in OZ.

Don't know anything about neck turning and what stage to do it as I haven't done this project myself.

The problem with most 7.62 x 39 brass is that it is large primer and has a large flash hole too, including Lapua 7.62 x 39 brass). You can reform the cases to PPC without a great deal of work,Redding makes a first forming die Midway USA sells, then you use a 6mmPPC die, etc.) but they just don't hold the pressure like the 220 Russian Brass does. As far as I know 7.62 x 39 is not a high pressure round and the cases are not designed for it. The 220 Russsian brass holds pressure very well and has a small flash hole and small primer pocket.
