Form Norma 6XC brass to 6.5x47Lapua?

I wonder if anyone have tried this and used it in actual shooting? That is, necking up and pushing back the shoulder on Norma 6XC brass to make it work as 6.5x47L?
The Lapuas own 6.5x47 brass is of course excellent. But a lot more expensive than Normas XC brass.

I got a hold of a few XC cases and run them through the Lapua die and they looked really nice with no doughnuts etc...

Would be great with any info in this subject, since the Norma brass is half the price at my dealers compared to Lapuas.

Best regards / TheSwede

Swede, I've had the opposite thought since I just paid $1.10 for Norma 6XC brass! What price (and where) are you seeing for 6XC brass? Thanks.

In sweden ;)

I've read a couple of threads about people using the Lapua brass for their XC:s, but not the other way around as in my case.

Hmmm... it'll take a big order, but the savings might justify a trip!

Seriously, an option is the 6.5XC which is no real trouble to chamber and the dies are available.

Swede, I gave this a bit more thought and your proposal should work. Look at this picture:

The 6XC brass is longer at the shoulder and longer overall. By running it into a 6.5x47L die, you'll push the shoulder back enough to chamber. Run an expander into the neck to go to 6.5 mm and then trim the case back to the correct length.

I would suggest turning the neck (if you plan to turn) before any other operation, that way, when you expand, there will be a turned portion going into the shoulder which should prevent donuts.

Thanks for the picture and tips! I couldn't resist geting the project out so I loaded all of the ten cases I had with a moderate load and went to the range. The result was promising. One thing I noticed though was à donut forming on the inside (since I remove the expander and only use à proper sized bushing) of the cases, at the neck-shoulder junction. In other words not good for accuracy. Since My aim is to not have to neck turn, I have the option of letting My Smith take out the throat 1-1,5mm so I can seat the bullets further Out and I'm of the donut and good to go. What do you think?

Throating longer to keep the bullet out of the donut is definitely an option. I'm glad to hear that the basic plan worked out well. Please let us know how it goes after the throat lengthening!
