Depends on what you are forming. Redding is pretty much the go-to company for forming dies. But sometimes forming can be done with multiple FL sizing or body dies available. Doesn't nescessarily have to be a forming die in some cases.

Would be a lot of help if you gave info on which cartridge are you trying to form and what parent case you intend to use???

If I may ask, the terminology of a "Form Die" begs definition. Not trying to be cute or anything, but are you referring to a BODY DIE or a FULL LENGTH SIZING DIE? The term "FORM DIE" is just foreign to me and I suspect others as well based upon the number of responses. Thx.

A form die is a die that is used in the intermediate stages of making a new "calibre" from the parent case - it has no useful function past that stage, and is not used in the reloading cycle.

Most books have a glossary of terms, I would suggest a reloader purchase reloading books.

Forming dies, I have forming dies, most are RCBS. http://www.ch4d.com/ is another company that makes forming dies. Utility, forming dies can be expensive, I have at least 4 that cost $90.00+ each. After forming 100 cases the forming die is paid for.

My favorite forming die is the 308 W, I can form 7.7 Japanese, 8mm57, 7mm57 etc. with it. Next favorite is the 243 W. For the same reason there is a belted magnum forming die that saves me time and money, the initial cost was difficult to justify.

For me the big advantage to forming is the ability to off set the length of the case from the shoulder to the head of the case. manufacturers do not sell long cases for reloaders that adjust the die to off set the length of the chamber. A reloader that forms cases no longer find it necessary to fire a case to determine the length of the chamber. When forming cases to length from the shoulder to the head of the case it is possible to form a case that fits.

The link above will take a reloader to the RCBS Special Order Catalog. It starts with reloading die sets, then on page 9 it starts on forming dies called trim/forming. The forming die doubles as a trim die, a most accurate method for trimming.

Below in the photo is a Redding case forming and trim die for a .303 British, to give you an idea of the dies internal dimensions a fired .303 case is inside the die and my little finger is keeping the case from falling out of the die. The die does not touch the body or neck of the fired case and makes a perfect die for just bumping the shoulder of the case back. This die would be the first step before going to the second step and a normal full length resizing die in case forming. Case forming dies are mainly for loading older cartridges that brass is not made for anymore, so you roll your own.

The above "single" case forming die is the simplest and cheapest of the case forming dies, other case forming dies may come in two or even three die sets and cost more than the antiquated rifle you are loading for.
