I am going to have a new shotgun.
I still have my H&R single shot 20 gauge mod choke that my dad got for me in 1972 when I was 10. It shoots fine. (Although it doesn't fit me at all) I want my grandson to learn to shoot on it. He's 12 and fired it a few times. He's shown an interest in guns....but I want that interest to be based in the reality of hunting, and not the imaginary world of movies and video games.
But I finally pulled the trigger (PUN intended!) on a new Remington 870 express. LEFT HANDED! Got it from Buds Gun shop online, so I don't have it yet. I have the blessing from the wife to buy it too! (She actually PUSHED me to buy it!) Two of my farmers have planted a LOT more corn than soybeans this year. (so less groundhog hunting) So I hope to take the grandson crow hunting. And this fall, when squirrel season opens, we can both go hunting with shotguns.
My dad was always a 20 gauge guy...and I was too, but this time I went with 12 gauge. I live about 5 miles from a very nice trap/skeet shooting facility. I've never shot there, but I've wanted too. But I don't think I'd do too well with a ill fitting 20 gauge mod choke gun. So up to the 12 it is. Dad understood my reasoning.
