FOLLOWER ON A 6.5-284?

I built a savage 110 in 6.5-284 and have trouble with the original savage follower, when I load the rifle with more than 2 rounds, and I try to close the bolt a round flyies out of the magazine, is there a simple way to solve this problem?

action was a 3006...
is it really a problem with the follower?

I want this gun to be my hunting rifle.

thanks

I don't have any experience with a Savage repeater in 6.5-284 but perhaps I can help anyway.

I have a 6.5-284 built on a Stiller TAC300 action mounted in an AICS 1.5 LA stock. The AICS LA comes with a magazine that is intended for the .300 Winchester Magnum. I'm feeding my 6.5-284 cartridges through this unaltered magazine with absolutely no problems. It's probably due to the fact that the diameter of the case bodies of both cartridges are quite similar.

I have a feeling that if you replace your .30-'06 follower with one specified for one of the standard magnum cartridges,7mmRM,
.300WM, etc.) you'll be on the way. I know that from past experiences with Savage actions that you might also have to spread the feed lips of the stamped magazine a little to accomodate your round. I'd replace the follower first, then tweak the feed lips if necessary.

I think Billy is correct a 6.5x.284 is fatter than an .06. If your dealing with a blink double stack magazine your getting a weird angle and how they are sitting in the magazine.

AICS, TIKKA, and other magazines are single stack detachable and don't suffer from this problem.
