Our final 500M Fly Shoot for 2018 will be September 15th.
This will be a postal match with the Aussies shooting in Canberra, Aus.
The Texas 500M Fly Shooter of the Year will be based on the best three of four match scores shot at Pine Valley in 2018.
Working on next years schedule. If you have a range that can shoot to 550 yards and would like to host a Fly Shoot next year, let me know and I will help you with organization, targets, etc.
If you are in Texas or La., I can bring the target stands to your range for the first match.

attached is entry form for sept. shoot

this year, One, top three scores added together no matter what gun class
will discuss next year at the last match in September. Several things to go over regarding how matches will be run next year.

Final 500m Fly Shoot for the year.
Just thought I would give a shout out to those of you who haven't been to a Fly Match. If you like competitive shooting, you will probably like this format. If you enter both light and heavy classes you can shoot over 90 rounds and have two separate chances to win the match. These matches are exciting, entertaining and very well run by Mike Cockcroft. The Australians are really good at this Fly shooting, so come out and help us beat them in September. Hope to see you then.

I'll be there! I plan on winning it. You all have been warned.

No, everything I have is braked...with the move and pig match I don't have time to tune a rifle without a brake.

That wasn't that silly...you can do it (in my best Waterboy accent, which isn't very good :D)

For the guys coming to the match, be aware that the IH45 renovations will have the Park road 40 underpass closed after 7pm 0n Friday so those coming from the north down IH45 you won't be able to exit at Park road 40 and cut over to highway 75 on Saturday morning. You would then have to go all the way to New Waverly and cut back over to 75 adding 8 or 10 miles to get to the range. The best alternate plan is probably to exit 45 on to 1374 (Montgomery Road) and head east to the intersection with 75 (S Sam Houston Ave) and head south to the turn off to 2296.

We wrapped up the 2018 500M Fly Shoot season yesterday at Pine Valley.

then Gary Worlow with 233.02
LIGHT GUN high score was Joe Duke with a 235.01 followed by Gary Worlow with a 217.01 and Scott Deal with a 210.01
HEAVY GUN small group of the match was 1.700" by Scott Deal
LIGHT GUN small group of the match was 1.125 by Joe Duke
HEAVY GUN high score for a target was 59.02 by West Young
LIGHT GUN high score for a target was 54.00 by Scott Deal

2018 Shooter of the Year is Denny Henderson. Denny is a great shooter, gentleman, and great ambassador for long range benchrest in Texas.

We had the worst conditions I believe we have seen at the range. Wind was tricky, but for most of the day you couldn't tell there was a target on the yellow paper. Shooting paper targets at long range in south east Texas is a challenge for sure. I want to thank the shooters that supported the matches all year long and the guys and ladies that worked so hard at the range to make these matches possible.

Mike, thanks for holding the matches. I think I have seen worse mirage but I can't remember where or when. I saw bullet holes on the first heavy gun relay and could just make out where the group formed on my first light gun target. After that, it was trust your wind call and pull the trigger. For those who have not tried a fly shoot, I would highly recommend you come try it. Like any shooting discipline, it requires a good rifle, good bullets, and a good measure of shooter skill. It will keep you busy shooting two relays and spotting two relays for your bench partner. But, you get to shoot a bunch and that makes a good day in my book.
Joe

Thanks for another great shoot, Mike. Went smoothly as always--- you just got the date wrong when you ordered the conditions! It went from a perfect, calm, cloudy, day on Friday for sight-in, to the mirage from hell on shoot day! One of these shoots we are gonna actually be able to see the target and watch out Aussies! Congrats to all the winners, and to Denny , who shot well all year to win the SOY award. Also a shout out to the range crew and the scorers who all did a great job. Looking forward to next season
Scott

I am amazed at the great shooting by West, Scott , Joe , Denny and others in conditions that were baffling to me. Never saw a bullet hole while shooting after relay one. Of course it makes it even harder if you shoot your neighbors target and look for the hole on your target !
I wish I had a picture of West's first target as it had the highest score of the day. I do have a picture of Scott's first relay target .
Many thanks to Mike for his efforts putting on these matches.

Also tried to show a sample of the mirage

Congrads for Denny.
Darrel The shoot was typical Texas weather hot muggy and a lot of mirage. It was perfect.
Just like Graham except the wind in 3 directions at once.
See you guys at Dennys shoot.
Mike you need to practice.

Mike did a great job with the match. Certainly a great group of like minded individuals sharing their passion for the sport. Congratulations to Denny for making Shooter of the Year!!

That performance will teach me to show up with expectations! Wow. What a butt whippin! My decent groups scored horribly. On the other hand, when a few found the middle, there would be a few way out left or up high - let ups & ? Humbling for sure.

Congrats to West & Joe. Amazing scores in that soup. Congrats to Denny for being a picture of consistency in all 4 matches. Well done!

If I hadn't pawned all my crap off on the way home, I'd say that I was looking forward to next season.
