Florida Turkey

I've fished salt water a few times. The last time was shark fishing and I was never so tired at the end of day not even when catching 100lb plus tarpon. Those things would like to have pulled me overboard. I guess I'm too much of a wimp for salt water so I'll stay with the little fish.

Tarpon will be here next month for a few months. They are a hoot but quite boring to fish for. I think of it as hours of total boredom punctuated ( we hope) by moments of sheer excitement.

Got one to the boat that measured 210 lbs. by tape, as you are not allowed to bring them in or keep to weigh. Worthless fish anyway. Same as a shark to me. Not edible so people do not buy the tarpon tag to keep one and sharks basically suck. Small once can be OK if you immediately gut them and ice down. Otherwise urea goes into the meat and they taste like pee.

Now do NOT ask me what pee tastes like. If you do I will answer..."like shark".

Since I'm an inland fisherman, most of my fish go back in the water. Wife can't figure out why I go to all that bother and then throw it back. If I keep fish to eat it's mostly panfish or walleye from where I'm at in PA. Tarpon in Costa Rico was a non stop adventure, we would catch 6 to 12 a day. That's about all time would allow since you were just hanging on for the first 15 minutes anyway. Then 30 to 45 minutes to get it to the boat. Shark was just for fun too.
