Flag Day.........20 Duece in the p/dog patch

Went out this morning.....probably the best day we've had in a week or two......

W I N D has been relentless it seems forever.....latest weather front has now

moved on...clear..hot & dry for the next while.....took the heavy Duece 20...17M2...Ruger

300 BLK for any big dumb dogs that I may see...went to one of my 'honey holes'...sure enough

target rich...set up the 20...this is my recycled 20 BR from several years ago...9 twist...barrel is a

full cylinder large shank Savage....25.5"....Target action...glass is 6-24x50 Vortex PST...

just short of 18# dry...no jump on this ole girl...when the 40 V max connects...the show begins...

amazing what the impact is even out to 400+ yds.....dogs die fast...my targets today were from

250-400 yds....made the mistake of only taking 160 rds...figuring the sun & bugs would chase me

out...even after a quick clean at 'half time' I was outta ammo in 90 minutes...never moved my

table....birds will eat well tonite......my closest estimate was 12 missed..148 DOA........the Duece

20 has always been a fav...even with a 20 VT..20 PT..6BR...223AI in my battery.....this caliber

is soooo mild mannered..23/H322 & a moly 40 V max in Lapua brass & Rem 7.5...Safe in my

rifle....work up with yours......another day soon to head back to another patch.....6BR maybe ?

Did manage to 17M2 some 'rimfire' dogs on the way out...another amazing cartridge...

Keeping your chamois wet at all?
I made a sleeve for my savage rigs & keep it wet when out on p-dogs.
Nice shooting day except for the miscalculation on ammo taken.

I have done the same....(not taking enough ammo) in the past....I always make sure I have more
than needed when I go out now. Ya just never know when the shooting can be fast and fun....

I was born and raised out 'West'. I sure miss the wide open spaces. Here in VA. we have miles and miles of trees!
