My p-dog shoot.

Well it was fair with 189 rounds out today.
I can hear several coyotes barking at eary daybreak. This is the same place I took out 4 last year.
Told to shoot on sight when they present themselves when I am p-dogging per the ranch manager.
Overcast/sunny/misted a tad, hardly any wind. It was 20-50MPH all week till today around here and they were out. I was waiting on one of my over looks into a long valley packed with them about a 3/4 mile long.
So after about 78 shots or so I happen to look up and see a coyote standing broadside at about 800+/- yards looking at me.
Well I always have my diaphram call in my pocket, so I blow a female long howl and its off and trotting straight to me.
There are 2 valleys in between us and many low spots so I have no idea if its off down to the creek bottoms or making my way.
I move my FP10 and it pops out at about 150yds, sees me and in a flash as Im squeezing the trigger busts down the arryo
I let it go, not shooting.
Back to shooting p-dogs till I leave & as I am walking back to the truck.....bark bark bark! Another/same? coyote letting me know Im busted about 400 yards off.
Yup they/it got me 2x on April fools day....darn dogs and all the nice ready made snacks I just I left them.

Sounds good. I hunt primarily on private land in MT and some public land in ND. Lots of good places.... what's the weather like out there?

Snowed 6" Sat/Sun, warmer today & snow is mostly gone today though, still chilly about 4 days and 50* or warmer the others.

5spd,
I hope the ranch manager isn't a forum member, you had your orders!! 800 yards in the wind is one thing but 400 yards?? What are you shooting for a rifle? good job on the pdogs though.

Wayne.

It did present its self as I was setting up for p-dogs. When I stopped to check out and told him what happened and I coaxed it with a howl, he asked "did you kill it or educate it?" Nope sir neither, "Hope you get it next time that happens" was his response. We do get along very well and Im not going to tell him a lie.
Savage FP10 in .223. That 400yds was over the hill behind me, right where I left a lot of dinners out for them. I did not see it, but it let me know I was watched.

Well you will get him next time, you got a lot of p-dogs anyway ;) how far can you reliably take p-dog's with your setup? I have a 22br with a 1:14 I was hoping to use for some 100-maybe 500 yard Ground hogs I have a 6brx for the long ones, anyway good luck with all the dogs.
Wayne.

My farthest shot this year was 710 yards with 4 misses till I got it dialed in.
I usually stay at a max of 300 yds and 99.9% of them are 200yds or less.
When it slows down and you see them all out on mounds at 600+ yds. thats when I start to dial up. If the wind is blowing I dont bother, Ill get up and walk around. I only shoot prone, no bench dragging around for me.

they weren't barking at you to say .... na na ya missed me.....
they were thanking you for a couple of days worth of food :D :D :D
