FL Sizing Die Problems

Need some expert opinions as I have not run into this problem before.

I have a brand new FL sizing die with bushing. As you can see from the pictures the die discolors the brass and marks it up. There is even a ridge of brass at the base of the case just before the rim where it appears brass has been "shaved" off the side of the case and pushed down to that point. I can feel a ridge and even push off a little brass. There is also a little mark on the top of the case right below the shoulder that is visible on the middle piece of brass. I also included a picture of the die where it looks like it is picking up the brass.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Also wonder if I should scrap these pieces or if they are OK to shoot.

Did you thoroughly clean the inside of the die before using it? What case lube are you using?

That thing is almost as bad as a high end maker did to me but they made right immediately so send it back with the 4 cases and tell them what lube you use and a short note with your phone number demanding an explanation. I just bought some forster 6.5 creedmore dies a while back and it had a rough spot so I just polished it out lightly and now it works fantastic. All die companys get an occasional die that was supposed to either be fixed or scrapped but made it through. Basically every die company I have bought from had a couple blooper dies that got replaced.

That die either missed polishing or received a very poor polishing effort.
I would call Hornady and discuss it so that you can email your photos.

They might want the die back or they might send you another without any more delays.

I got a bad shell holder from Hornady and it is one that only they make properly dimensioned.
When I got it, it would not fit the ram in any of my presses due to a fillet radius on the bottom inside corner.
After they checked stock they found all of their inventory was also wrong.
I had to wait a few days while they reworked their inventory and then they sent me a reworked shell holder that functioned perfectly.
They let me keep the dud shell holder.

Scrap the brass and by the way are you using aerosol lube or what?

I was using One shot lube. Yes, cleaned the die prior to using it as it had a film on it.

I was guessing the brand based on the appearance of the lock ring.
I don't understand the point of hiding the identity of a screw up, since your photo might lead others to think it is Hornady too.

I have polished a lot of dies. The only ones that came from the factory with a crappy polishing job were Herter's and some of the other brands from the same maker such as Krupp American. I have a new condition Herter's 7X57 die that produces cases just like yours. It may have only been rough reamed. It has a poor internal finish and it squashes a case about .004 smaller than a normal 7X57 FL sizing die.

Most of the die polishing I have done was the resurrection of dies used by bubba with equal part case lube and dirt.

I had an email into the maker of the die and want to give them the opportunity to make it right. Sometimes things get out and it's how it's corrected is important.

I have just heard back from them and already have a tracking number for a new die in my email. Plus a prepaid return label. They said the same as many above that the die doesn't appear to be polished enough.

Don't know who's die it is and really don't want to. Sounds as though they are reputable enough to make it right. Everybody makes mistakes, as you said it how they handle them that's important. Let us know how the new die performs.
