Problems with FL sizing

Bear with me this may be a little long and convoluted.
I'm currently shooting a Cooper MTV in 6mmBR. At this time I am using both Remington & Lapua brass. The chamber is the dimension of the Lapua brass. The Remington brass is slightly smaller but fireforms to the chamber with no problems.
My problem arises when I have to FL size my brass to bump the shoulders back slightly. I have a Redding 3 die set that is marked 6mmBR Remington. When I run the Lapua brass through the dies everything is right with the world, just a slight bump and they're good to go. When I run the Remington brass, without fail I get dents in the shoulder like what you would expect with too much lube. At the point of FL sizing both brands of brass are essentially the same dimension.
Right now the only thing I can do to stop the denting on the Rem. brass is to back the die out about an 1/8 turn but this doesn't accomplish the shoulder bump.
Has anyone else had this problem?

I think your dents may be caused because the remington brass is a bit softer than the lapua, try wiping the shoulder area off really well with a paper towel before resizing.I run into this with old versus new brass from time to time.

Hi jwv...I dont know why you are getting the dented or damaged Rem. cases...but as you know the chamber is the larger,,Lapua dim.,, and there is more of the Rem. case that is being fireformed....the case head is undersize tooo...it is gradually swelling and guess what ...you will loosen the primer pokets....and then start blowing primers, and gas cut your bolt face....you have a premium rifle there...dont mess it up trying to save fifty cents on the wrong brass,,they are junk compared to the Lapua any how!!!)))...there is a lot of confusion over Rem vs Lapua case and chamber dims......the original Rem BR,22 or 6mm) length was 1.520"....now the new Rem and Lapua,Norma) is 1.560"....and the case head dims from Lapua,Norma-etc.) is also a few thou. bigger ..., I am not in my Librar at the moment--so I cant give exact dims..) so if your reamer/chamber is the new longer fatter dim...the rem brass will go in and go boom ...but there is more than just fireforming and forget it!!!,,,ooo I forgot ...the flash hole in the early rem was .080..then later some with the headstamp 6mm Rem BR were .060---all of the european,,Lapua-Norma are .060 +/-))),smaller) case head is growing,,and the primer poket is getting looser)) to match the chamber ....
Of course the inverse is true for other rifles chamberd with the old reamer/chamber configuratin....then you will run into having to trim the cases bak to 1.520 to fit in the short rem chamber ...and the Lapua cases will be so tight it will cause nothin but grey hair!!!! I have had and shot the various BR configurations and made the brass from the old BR basic brass for 30+ yrs now......
The only way to go is with the new Lapua chamber/reamer/brass/sizing die... combo....this is true with any cal...222 or 30-06 or whatever ...the brass and reamer/chamber/ re-size die must be a package deal....that is why I like kiff reamers so well,,,,he usually makes the resize reamers for Redding,,guess what brand of re-size die I like???!!!!))..get rid of the rem brass and move up to the real thing...dont kid your self by trying to pinch pennies and use the rem brass....the lapua is a lil more pricey...but lasts longer and shoots better..............Roger

I'll preface this with a caveat: I have never had much respect for any of Remington, or Remington-Peters, or UMC components, outside their very fine shotshell products. In your case, I would guess that you are having trouble with the Remington brass because it tends to become brittle on the surface easily. As the wise man said--ya gets what ya pays for, and in this case it's true.
